Neil Magny gets submitted by Joaquim Silva amidst fight rumors with Khamzat Chimaev
Neil Magny loses to Joaquim Silva
It is going to take more than just heart for Neil Magny to convince the matchmakers to get him inside the octagon against welterweight monster Khamzat Chimaev.
Neil Magny is coming off a very disappointing loss at UFC’s FURY Pro Grappling 3 event. The veteran was paired opposite to UFC lightweight Joaquim Silva. The lightweight fighter took only 3 minutes to submit the fighter from the heavier weightclass. Magny was put in a guillotine choke at 2:47 making it a very big upset. The fight took place at 2300 Arena in Philadelphia streaming on UFC Fight Pass.
Heading into this fight, Neil looked like the favorite to fight the superstar that burst into the scene, Khamzat Chimaev. The UFC President Dana White wants to get the best out of Chimaev and has previously revealed that there is a scarcity of opponents who would accept a fight against the fighter from Chechnya. Neil is an exception. Magny has been very open about fighting Chimaev since his arrival in the UFC.
Is a matchup with Khamzat Chimaev fair for Neil Magny?
Khamzat has been completely unstoppable in his professional career and especially in the UFC. The fighter has been barely scratched inside the octagon. Chimaev has walked over all his opponents and has a record of 10-0 in his career. The fighter has finished all of them. After his latest victory against Li Jingliang at UFC 267, It is fair to say that the fighters in the welterweight division were a little hesitant to fight the “Borz”.
Neil Magny, however, has still been calling out the fighter from Chechnya and the two have even traded some hostile words on social media. Chimaev is ready to fight anyone on the roster but Dana White and his matchmakers want to make Chimaev be a part of a blockbuster fight. Magny’s loss against the lightweight in pro wrestling is a big hit to his potential matchup given Chimaev is a different monster when it comes to wrestling.
Chimaev has managed to get two submission victories in the UFC. One against a welterweight and one against a middleweight fighter. So it is fair to say that taking down Magny wouldn’t be a lot of hard work for Khamzat. Do you see the Magny vs Chimaev fight happening in 2022?
