“His downfall elevated me,” Adrian Yanez reacts to upcoming opponent Tony Kelley’s infamous, disrespectful remarks on Brazilians
Adrian Yanez vs Tony Kelley
UFC Bantamweight Adrian Yanez is not one to miss the opportunity if the expectations get high, and therefore is looking forward to putting on another clinic of class striking on another opponent with his way up to the top. Yanez is an undefeated bantamweight in the UFC with a 5-0 record for the world’s biggest MMA organization and won 4 of those bouts via knockout. Yanez is looking forward to fighting next month at UFC on ESPN 37 fight card against fellow upcoming bantamweight Tony Kelley.
But ahead of this fight, there’s a little build up as well. Earlier this month, Kelley was doing some corner work for his girlfriend, UFC flyweight Andrea Lee at UFC on ESPN 36 in Lee’s fight against Viviane Araujo. In between the rounds, Kelley makes some remarks against Araujo’s fighting style, which is a generalised statement for Araujo’s birth nation of Brazil and ends up being in bad books of racism. In response to Araujo’s eye poke, Kelley basically told Lee “That’s what they’re gonna do. They’re dirty f******* Brazilians. They’re going to f***ing cheat like that.”
Adrian Yanez calls Tony Kelley’s comments on Brazilian fighters “shi**y”
Yanez, a Dana White Contender Series veteran and a former student of the late great Saul Soliz, who is often known as the Godfather of MMA in Texas, gave an interview to MMA journalist James Lynch to talk about his aspirations for having a successful game streaming channel on Twitch, his future as a fighter and more. In the midst of all, Yanez also talks about how Tony Kelley’s disparaging comments on Brazilian fighters have affected his fame since Yanez is going to fight Kelley next as mentioned before.
“Man I got a bunch of Brazilian fans,” says Yanez “I haven’t posted [since my last post] but I still get comments of Brazilian flags still coming down so it’s like man, you know, his downfall kind of elevated me a little bit. It’s cool in a sense but at the same time, it’s kind of sh**ty what he said, you know. He could’ve directed it toward the fighter and not just the whole like towards the whole country…” continues Yanez.
What do you make of Yanez’s reaction to Kelley’s comments and what’s your prediction for their fight? Who do you think takes the win? Both the fighters have a 3/4 of their MMA record of finishing their opponents off and thus this fight may well not go to distance. Where do you see Yanez peaks his potential? Do you see him as the future world champion?
