After devastating loss to Leon Edwards, Colby Covington claims ‘trainwreck’ Sean Strickland is ‘easy fight’

Colby Covington recently criticized Sean Strickland, referring to him as a “train wreck.” Covington predicted Strickland would make poor decisions in the coming years. He also expressed confidence in defeating Strickland, deeming him an easy fight. Colby Covington addressed this at the post-fight press conference at UFC 296.

Strickland and Covington have gone back and forth with each other for a while now. Therefore, a reporter asked him if that was a fight he was interested in. To this, Covington replied:

Ofcourse, he's been running his mouth and nothing he said makes sense...that guy's a trainwreck. That guy's for sure gonna do something st***d in the next couple years and we're all going to be talking in the media about this and that how bad decisions he makes... Sean wants to go let's do it, it's an easy fight for me.

Sean Strickland passionately defended Leon Edwards amidst controversy with Colby Covington. Strickland criticized Covington’s disrespectful comments about Edwards’ deceased father. Covington had alleged that Edwards’ late father was a gangster who had killed people and added that he was in hell. This verbal confrontation occurred ahead of their UFC 296 showdown in Las Vegas.

Sean Strickland condemned this behavior. Strickland did not have anything nice to say about Covington. He slammed Covington for reviving the memory of another fighter’s murdered father. Strickland’s fiery response sparked the tension between the two fighters.

At UFC 296, Sean Strickland engaged in a heated altercation with Dricus Du Plessis. Before the brawl, a video showed Strickland politely asking Gilbert Burns‘ wife and son to move. Strickland then leaped over and unleashed a violent assault on du Plessis, resulting in a chaotic brawl ringside.

The duo were later separated by security. The aftermath prompted Strickland to express his dissatisfaction with du Plessis on social media. He blamed du Plessis for speaking about his abusive father. Meanwhile, Dricus Du Plessis commented on the situation, saying there should not be any double standards. The South African fighter said if Strickland could dish it out, he should be able to handle when someone dishes it back at him.

UFC CEO Dana White took responsibility for the brawl. Dana acknowledged that placing them next to each other was a mistake and referred to himself as an ‘assh***e’ for the decision. Sean Strickland and Dricus du Plessis will headline the main event at UFC 297. After this most recent development, it surely will be an interesting fight to watch.
