Jon Jones is about to make his much-awaited comeback to the Octagon at UFC 285 in Las Vegas on March 4. Ahead of Jones’ return Middleweight champion Alex Pereira has shared his views about Jones’ comeback matches.
Initially, Jon Jones was booked to challenge Francis Ngannou for the UFC Heavyweight championship. However, things have taken a different turn now after Francis Ngannou decided to part ways with UFC leaving the Heavyweight championship vacant. Now the Heavyweight gold is up for grabs between Jon Jones and Ciryl Gane.
In an interview with MMA fighting Alex Pereira has chosen his side for the bout at UFC 285. According to Pereira, Jon is emerging as the new heavyweight champion when everything is done and dusted at UFC 285.
Pereira said, “I think he’s really coming to dominate…Ngannou is stronger and would want to trade punches with Jon Jones, and Jon Jones is very experienced, has great defense, so I think Jon Jones would beat Ngannou…This next fight [with Gane] … It’s a bit more difficult because [Gane] is smart, and a bit more scared in a good way, not to come trading with Jon Jones, which makes him a more difficult fight.”
Jones last competed inside the Octagon back in 2020 at UFC 247 when he defended his light heavyweight championship against Dominick Reyes. Jones has not lost a single match since losing to Matt Hamill via a disqualification back in 2009 which is the only recorded loss throughout his career.
When Jon Jones congratulated Alex Pereira for winning the Middleweight championship
Alex Pereira captured the Middleweight championship only in his fourth match in UFC. The Brazilian managed to dethrone Israel Adesanya who held the championship since 2019.
After Poatan won his first UFC gold many fellow fighters congratulated him, among them was Jon Jones. Jones took to Twitter to send a message to the Brazilian. He wrote, “It’s already yours Champ, Congratulations! Incredibly happy for you and your team.”
Alex Pereira has now won three matches against Israel Adesanya. Having won two fights during his stint as a kickboxer. The Brazilian will be facing the Last Stylebender for a fourth time in a championship rematch. If Pereira manages to retain his championship he might be moving up the weights to challenge for the Light Heavyweight championship.
