Alex Pereira has incredible knockout power. Fight fans have remained in awe of Pereira’s power. The Brazilian is famous for it, so much so that Brazilian ONE Championship fighter Matheus Pereira‘s TKO victory and blazing leg kick drew similarity with “Poatan” recently.
The former two-division GLORY kickboxing champion spars lightly with a partner in a surfaced footage (on an IG reel). The fighter executes a blink-and-you-miss-it punch, downing the opponent. The touch-and-go left punch has drawn in much deliberation. When a fan account marvels at this, a prime reaction jested – “Hands of dynamite.”
Pereira, an otherwise stoic and solemn personality, often exercises subtle wit. The fighter is notorious for his pranks and funny stints, with the likes of Glover Teixeria and Daniel Cormier. On more than one occasion, he has pranked Cormier with his kicks. Very recently, after his UFC 295 win, Pereira also went viral for hilariously testing out new shoe merchandise with combo moves of jabs, hooks, and light kicks.
The light heavyweight champion touts his moves whenever possible. Pereira also competed as a 1-0 cruiserweight amateur boxer, with a TKO win with Marcelo de Souza Cruz. Hence, it is only natural for him to have a heightened battle IQ and come up with intuitive yet surprising finishes. This is not the only time the fighter has amazed with his move sets.
Alex Pereira demonstrates his new way to check kicks
Alex “Poatan” Pereira is fresh off a win from UFC 295. Bagging the light heavyweight title, the fighter is the ninth in the promotion to achieve the double champion status. Recently, Pereira put the heavyweight division on notice after rumors of his 3-division glory aspirations went wild. He has also, consistently hyped up his possible return for the UFC 300 card.
After his win, the fighter has graced fans with quite many training videos and media interviews. He even engaged in a handful of callbacks and banters, including Israel Adesanya and Khamzat Chimaev. One such training video sees the fighter practice a new form of kick, as seen below.
Pereira put in a short sparring pad session in which he landed some well-connected punches. Then, with a retro kick of his own, Pereira defended an incoming leg kick that could have engaged in a slicer. The backside kick, or “Rabona” in soccer terms, is unique.
While the combo is nothing new, but a very prominent Muay Thai practice, the fighter has stirred up quite a sentiment in his favor. It is only natural for Pereira to have such fight acumen. Accordingly, the fighter has won the hearts of many MMA enthusiasts and peers with such practices and feats.
