Alexander Volkov reacts to his fight against Jairzinho Rozenstruik
Alexander Volkov has given his thoughts on his win over Jairzinho Rozenstruik at UFC Vegas 56 which has caused a lot of controversies.
UFC Vegas 56 was headlined by a heavyweight showdown between Alexander Volkov and Jairzinho Rozenstruik. The fight was held at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas, Nevada and to the audience’s shock, the fight night came to an uneventful end. Alexander Volkov earned a TKO win against Rozenstruik but the fans were disappointed with the decision of Herb Dean.
The Russian beat Bigi Boy via TKO at 2;12 of round one of the five-round bout. Both the fighters were shocked by the decision of referee Herb Dean to swoop in and stop of the fight in favor of Volkov when Jairzinho had barely been dropped to the floor. It was a very big disappointment for Jairzinho who was trying to come back from a loss against Curtis Blaydes.
In the post-fight press conference, Alexander addressed the controversy and gave his thoughts on the referee’s decision. “It’s not my fault, anyway. Referee stopped this,” said Volkov reacting to the outrage from the fans in the post-fight press conference of UFC Vegas 56.
Alexander Volkov believes he would have knocked Jairzinho out anyways
Like Jairzinho, Volkov too was heading into this fight with a chip on his shoulder from his loss to Tom Aspinall at UFC London in March. Volkov was submitted in the first round and he came back strong against Jairzinho and looked great right from the get-go. Despite the early stoppage, Volkov believes he would have defeated Bigi Boy in the following seconds with knockout blows toward him.
“You know, he go out of me after stoppage. In the moment I hit him, he was a little bit like, knocked out. So, he wasn’t being like fully fresh. So anyway it was a big opportunity to knock him out to the end because he was almost on the mats,” said Volkov in the post-fight press conference.
