UFC bantamweight champion Aljamain Sterling and his coach share a good family-like bond together. And no wonder, when it is about the family, every family member has the right to raise concerns. The same goes here when coach Ray Longo doesn’t care about the consequences and slams the UFC president. The concern for Sterling as a champion is that he is constantly booked for turnaround.
Bantamweight champion Aljamain Sterling has been a busy fighter since his first title defense. In every 7-month gap, Sterling defended his title against T.J. Dillashaw and former champion Henry Cejudo. Aljo faced Cejudo only on May 6, and now the UFC president has asked him to compete again. The biggest factor here is that the ‘Funk Master’ needed time for recovery, which he has claimed in many interviews.
But being the champion, he had no interest in turning down the fight against Sean O’Malley. Although ‘Funk Master’ is ready, the coach doesn’t look happy about the scenario his student is in right now, On the Anik & Florian Podcast, Ray Longo expressed his concern.
Longo said, “I think it’s the inconsistency of well Makhachev hasn’t fought in a year, why are you forcing to fight in two months like that’s where I have a problem.” Long explained his concern asking White if he really wanted everyone to fight in 2 months then it should be followed by everyone. “This is their rules. It’s their company. He built it up. He gets to call the shots, but to do one thing one time and not the other time, I think that’s where it gets a little sticky for me.”

Coach of Aljamain Sterling why targeted Islam Makhachev specifically?
Islam Makhachev last fought in the octagon against a lightweight at UFC 284 against Charles Oliveira. After breaking ‘Do Bronx’ via submission in the second round, he won the UFC lightweight throne. In five months, he fought to defeat non-lightweight division contender Alexander Volkanovski. At UFC 284, according to many of analysts, Islam didn’t win the fight.
Islam looked more busted up after the five-minute round against ‘The Great’. The questions were raised by Makhachev after that, and everyone in the MMA community is concerned about the Dagestani’s next fight.
Ray Longo also said, “I like fairness, and I like the transparency of knowing everybody’s going the same thing.” Since Aljo’s last fight was also tough against ‘Triple C,” which he won with a split decision, the only thing not matching up for Aljamain Sterling’s coach is that if both had tough last fights, then both should face a quick turnaround. Volkanovkski also has the next tight defense in July at UFC 290.
