“He did knock me out”- Aljamain Sterling recalls sparring sessions with Zabit Magomedsharipov
Aljamain Sterling talks about sparring with Zabit Magomedsharipov
Aljamain Sterling won his most recent title battle, a rematch with former champion Peter Yan, at UFC 273, in Jacksonville, Florida. After five rounds of fight, a split decision was reached to unify Yan’s temporary title and undisputed bantamweight belt. Aljamain Sterling has put the game out of reach with his triumph. The current champion has a 2-0 record versus the previous champion. Unlike the previous one, the outcome seemed to be more obvious this time.
At UFC 259, Aljamain won the world title after his opponent Per Yan struck him with an illegal knee in the first round. For the same reason, Peter Yan was disqualified. As a result, Aljamain was crowned champion. This was an unusual and unanticipated way to win the championship.
Aljamain was victorious owing to the fight’s circumstances rather than his own abilities. Since then, Aljamain has faced a barrage of criticism from both professionals and fans. However, his recent victory silenced many of his critics, and he has been savouring the victory ever since.
“That was not fun”- Aljamain Sterling tells the story of his first spar with Zabit Magomedsharipov
Sterling shared a story of a training session he had with Russian fighter Zabit Magomedsharipov in response to his retirement. He recently posted a video on his YouTube channel in which he explained his experience with Magomedsharipov, who is now retired.
He stated, “He did knock me out, and dude, that was not fun. That guy came in there like a Samurai ninja, doing spinning kicks and sh**. I’m like, bro, I’ve never seen anybody do sh** like this. I went in there and I was like, ‘Oh, this guy doesn’t look like much.’ And then he took his hoodie off. And when he took his hoodie off and I looked over and I go, ‘Chris, this guy is big as hell, bro.’ It was cool till we were, like boxing. I was actually faster, so I was able to get in a little bit.”
The news of Zabit retiring comes amid a flurry of conjecture over the fighter’s future since his most recent fight in 2019. Following that, the UFC was unable to find a bout for the fighter that fit his timetable and did not include any scheduling conflicts. Following his surgery, Magomedsharipov was forced to hang up his gloves due to a permanent new low in his health.
Unfortunately, what could have been a long and successful career for Zabit Magomedsaripov has come to an end. The fighter notified the UFC and even announced on Instagram a few hours ago that he will no longer participate as an active athlete.
