Khabib Nurmagomedov is known for his disciplined lifestyle as an individual from Dagestan, Russia. He never deviated from his way of living for any reason. This led ‘The Eagle’ to stay undefeated throughout his career. As such, he trained twice to thrice every day to master his skills. Now, UFC legend Daniel Cormier revealed an incident of sending a few kids to train under Nurmagomedov in Dagestan.

Daniel Cormier recently made an appearance on the Joe Rogan Experience. He shared a story of sending a few 13-year-old kids to train in Dagestan. DC sent the kids there as he believed training with the fighters in Dagestan would help them. As such, Khabib Nurmagomedov welcomed the kids and took them under his radar. Later, the kids shared their experience with Cormier, and he explained it in detail to Joe Rogan. Here is what he said:

Khabib is a great guy, right? He brought hotels for them, he'd feed them. He said just get them here.They trained for a month. They told me, they said 'Coach, we practice with you'. He goes 'In Dagestan its training' because it's in the morning, it's in the mid-day, and it's in the evening. You're training all day. Long practices.

Further in the interview, Daniel Cormier revealed that the Dagestanis practiced gymnastics before their training. He stated that gymnastics improved the flexibility and body control of the individuals. As such, these revolutionary training methods were the reason for the dominance of Dagesatnis in the mixed martial arts realm. Many prominent fighters like Khabib Nurmagomedov, Islam Makhachev, and Usman Nurmagomedov came out of Dagestan, Russia.

Khabib Nurmagomedov reigned as the UFC lightweight champion for three years and retired at the top. Apart from being an exceptional fighter, he was a great human being. Accepting and caring for the kids Daniel Cormier sent just showcased the same traits. Currently, Islam Makhachev continues the legacy of the Dagestani fighters in the UFC.

Khabib Nurmagomedov’s MMA GOAT list features Daniel Cormier in the top five

Khabib Nurmagomedov released his MMA GOAT (Greatest Of All Time) list back in April 2023. It featured his longtime friend and teammate Daniel Cormier in the fifth position. DC had earned the respect of the MMA fans with his accomplishments in the UFC, and a fifth spot was deserved.

Daniel Cormier was an Olympic medalist who transitioned to MMA from wrestling. He accomplished the great feat of becoming a double champion in the UFC. He won the light-heavyweight and heavyweight titles. Also, he remained the only double champion who defended the two titles.

Khabib Nurmagomedov’s GOAT list was criticized by many as he excluded his archrival Conor McGregor. However, the list was more or less complete. ‘The Eagle’ and Daniel Cormier trained together at the American Kickboxing Academy for years. As such, they developed a rapport between them and remained friends until now.
