Armen Petrosyan was scheduled to face Rodolfo Vieira this weekend at UFC Sao Paulo. But, the fight was canceled just moments before their walkout. Later, we learned that Petrosyan fell ill and started vomiting backstage. Now, it came to light that he was poisoned.
One of Armen Petrosyan’s management company posted on Instagram that he was seriously poisoned. Although they’ve deleted the post, we’ve got the news covered. They revealed that he was poisoned, and as a result, his sugar levels instantly dropped to alarming levels. They said the UFC supported the situation and would wait for Petrosyan’s health to heal before booking him a fight. Here is what they said in the now-deleted Instagram post:
Shortly before the duel, Armen felt bad. He was seriously poisoned in Brazil. Sugar has dropped sharply. And now that such a situation has happened to Armen, UFC said they are waiting for his recovery and are ready to give a new duel or reschedule this confrontation in a time acceptable to the Armenian fighter."Management team of Armen Petrosyan via Instagram
The management team also mentioned a previously undisclosed incident. Just a few days from UFC Sao Paulo, the promotion informed Armen Petrosyan that Vieira was out and they would offer a striker to replace him. The Armenian accepted the fight despite him being a contrasting style fighter to what he prepared for. But later, Vieira was ready, and they went ahead with the originally scheduled matchup. However, the fight was canceled due to Petrosyan’s illness.
Armen Petrosyan has an MMA record of nine wins and two losses. There are only a few Armenian fighters in the UFC, and the ‘Superman’ was one of the exciting prospects. As of now, his sugar levels are returning to normal, as per his management team. He would return to the octagon after healing from the illness.
How did Armen Petrosyan enter the UFC?
Armen Petrosyan’s life changed in October 2021 when he received a UFC contract. He competed in Dana White’s contender series and secured a first-round finish in his fight against the undefeated Kaloyan Kolev. A monstrous left head kick did the deed for Petrosyan.
