“I just don’t see him winning”- Arnold Allen drops his prediction for the featherweight contest between Yair Rodriguez and Brian Ortega

Yair Rodriguez and Brian Ortega

Arnold Allen breaks down the fight Ortega vs Rodriguez! On July 16, the upcoming UFC Fight Night event on Long Island, New York, will feature a five-round main event between the featherweights Brian Ortega and Yair Rodriguez.

A two-time candidate for the 145-pound title, Ortega has been around the top of the UFC rankings in recent years while retaining a stellar record that includes victories over Frankie Edgar, Cub Swanson, and “The Korean Zombie” Chan Sung Jung. After losing to Max Holloway in 2018, he only had two championship defeats before suffering his most recent loss to Alexander Volkanovski in a Fight of the Night this past September.

Yair Rodriguez might’ve returned after a very long time but it didn’t take him that long to prove that is still one of the most phenomenal strikers on the current UFC roster right now. Even if Rodriguez lost his last fight against former UFC featherweight champion Max Holloway, he gave Holloway a look we have never seen on the former champ’s face before. Rodriguez did gave a lot of problems even after fading away from the Octagon for nearly two years.

Another featherweight prospect, Arnold Allen is keeping a close eye on this fight, and he dropped the predictions for this during his appearance on Believe You Me, podcast, he said, “I think Yair wins it. I think he wins it. I don’t think Brian’s going to be able to take him down, and I definitely don’t think he’s going to be able to strike with him, maybe catch onto a guillotine-like he does, maybe even pull guard. I don’t know. I just don’t see him winning on the feet against Yair.”

Talking about his future Arnold said, “He’s got sort of that flat-footed boxing style where if you shoot on him, it’s almost worse for you. Everyone wants to fight upwards, don’t they, on a win streak, and that’s the goal. That is the goal: to fight upwards. I’m not too fussed who it is. I want to be the best, so you’ve got to beat the best guys.”
