Former women’s UFC Bantamweight Champion Julianna Pena says this trilogy between her and Amanda Nunes is like one of the biggest in women’s fight history.

Former UFC women’s bantamweight titleholder, Julianna Pena, will be getting her 2nd rematch against Amanda “Lioness” Nunes on 10 June 2023 at UFC 289. In a recent interview, she revealed how Amanda was escaping this Trilogy fight.

Julianna Pena gave the biggest shock to the women’s bantamweight Division in December 2021, when she submitted Amanda Nunes. But within 6 months Amanda Nunes regained the UFC Bantamweight belt in July 2022 via. a unanimous decision.

During an interview with MMA FIGHTING, Julianna told, “This has always been the fight,”.  “This has always been the fight that I’ve wanted. There’s no surprise on my end. I said that I was gonna fight her, I said there was gonna be a trilogy fight and that was the only fight that makes sense. It’s the only fight that does make sense.”

Julianna Pena claims that Amanda Nunes was trying to find an excuse not to fight her again. And she also said that she wants to have the baby so she will not be competing for some time. But UFC  asked her to fight against Pena or she will get stripped of her title. Julianna told, “They said that if she didn’t fight against me that she would be stripped.”

When Julianna Pena explains why Amanda Nunes will be the next opponent she comes with the reply that this is the only fight that makes sense because Amanda Nunes has done enough in the division. Amanda keeps claiming her to be unworthy of fighting her but Julianna gave her the biggest upset by submitting her.

Julianna Pena took the name of UFC and said they knew how to do business. This will be the biggest women’s mixed martial arts fight in UFC and MMA history. “This is the biggest women’s mixed martial arts fight in history. It’s a trilogy fight, it’s a ‘Rocky’ story. I think the UFC knows that. They know how to do business. They know how to do big business and make big fights.” said Pena, as she compared her trilogy with Amanda.

Juliana explained what was happening actually, “She was always telling me that I was unworthy of fighting her and that I had to go win one more and win one more in order to fight her,” Pena continued. “She tried to do that same thing and in this same case, she said I had to go fight Irene in order to fight for the belt against her again and win. I don’t know how Irene comes up in this conversation at all. We’re 1-1.“

Fans are already thrilled as Amanda Nunes is already considered as GOAT in the women’s Bantamweight division and if she wins then it will not be easy for other fighters to take the belt from her once again.
