Bobby Green faces Jalin Turner in the co-main event of UFC Austin. Originally, he was set to face Dan Hooker. However, Hooker pulled out due to an injury. Now, ahead of Green’s fight, Paddy Pimblett called him out for a fight at UFC 300. As such, ‘King’ addressed the callout. Pimblett fights Tony Ferguson at UFC 296, just a couple of weeks after Green’s fight.
During the pre-fight media event, Bobby Green was questioned about Paddy Pimblett’s callout. ‘King’ was shocked and didn’t believe that ‘The Baddy’ really called him out. Here is what he said:
He really said that?...Paddy know that's a bad fight for him. He don't want that. He's just talking, okay? He's just talking. Until he start walking, get through Tony and then we'll talk. We'll talk after that. But, Paddy don't want that. It'd be a bad fight for him.Bobby Green via UFC Austin media day
Paddy Pimblett takes on his first biggest name in the UFC in the shape of Tony Ferguson. He had won four straight fights in the UFC to earn this shot at ‘El Cucuy’. On the other hand, Ferguson is on a six-fight losing skid. Also, he looked aged and slow during his fights. However, Bobby Green believed that ‘El Cucuy’ was still challenging for Pimblett.
Bobby Green fought Tony Ferguson in UFC 291 and submitted him in the last seconds of the fight. He earned a shot at a ranked opponent in Grant Dawson following the win. As such, he stunned everyone with a first-round knockout of Dawson. Now, he faces Jalin Turner, who ranks above him in the UFC rankings.
Looking back on Bobby Green’s knockout of Grant Dawson
Bobby Green was booked to fight Grant Dawson after his impressive win against Tony Ferguson. ‘King’ was a veteran of the UFC and was always on the verge of cracking into the UFC rankings in the lightweight division. As such, he delivered a stunning knockout against Dawson to get ranked.
Coming into the fight, Grant Dawson was a huge favorite and was ranked #10 in the lightweight division. Also, with 10 UFC fights to his name, he never lost one. However, Bobby Green landed a left-hand flush on Grant Dawson’s head to finish the fight in just 33 seconds. This upset win over Dober earned ‘King’ his much-sought spot in the UFC rankings. This also set up a barn-burner fight with Dan Hooker next.
However, Dan Hooker got injured and pulled out of the fight. As such, Hooker’s last fight opponent Jalin Turner stepped up on short notice to face Bobby Green. Now, this fight goes down as the co-main event of UFC Austin.
