Gilbert Burns is one of the best fighters in the UFC’s welterweight division. He once challenged for the undisputed title but was unsuccessful against Kamaru Usman. Burns has flash and flair that he brings to the octagon. He is also somewhat of a style icon as he sports a distinct Afro.

On his appearance on the JAXXON podcast, Burns revealed how he got the Afro hair. This is what he said.

My grandma is African. She came all the way from Africa, I think Nigeria, but yeah, that's where the hair came from, that's where the Afro came from.

Burns revealed that his grandmother is African, from Nigeria and that is where he got the Afro hair from. This revelation got a huge response from Rampage Jackson. He even said how Burns would look if he had his hair fall in the front. This is what Rampage Jackson said.

Burns liked the comparison but revealed that he could not dance like Michael Jackson. However, he stated that Anderson Silva is an expert dancer and could dance like Michael Jackson. Rampage Jackson also seconded Burns’ statement of Silva’s dancing prowess. Burns last fought Belal Muhammad at UFC 288. His upcoming fight is against Jack Della Maddalena.

Gilbert Burns fought Belal Muhammad in the co-main event of UFC 288. The fight was on short notice and it was Burns’ third fight in 2023. Burns started 2023 with a submission victory over Neil Magny at UFC 283. He followed it up with a decision victory over Jorge Masvidal at UFC 287. However, he lost the bout to Muhammad via unanimous decision in the five-round co-main event.

On the JAXXON podcast, Burns revealed what went wrong in the fight with Belal Muhammad.

I had three weight cuts back to back to back: January, April, and then May again. And, uh, that was a mistake too.

Burns revealed three weight cuts in 6 months fatigued his body. Moreover, he also blamed himself for injuring his shoulder due to a failed takedown attempt in the fight. Nevertheless, he accepted responsibility for the loss and stated that he would not make excuses for the loss.
