“Actually a problem for Sugar”- Brendan Schaub talks about Sean O’Malley’s future in the bantamweight division
Sean O'Malley vs Pedro Munhoz
Pedro Munhoz and Sean O’Malley had one of the more upsetting fights at UFC 276 and in a card that gained the main event so much criticism, that statement is saying something. The opening fight of the main card was stopped in round 2 after an eye-poke from O’Malley lead to the end of the fight due to Pedro being unable to continue.
Immediately after this fans started accusing Pedro of quitting the fight and alleging that the injury wasn’t as serious as he made it seem. During the time the doctor entered the cage to check on his eye as the referee called for a break, Munhoz would say, “All I see is black” promoting the first to be stopped before he took the full 5 minutes to recover
While Sean O’Malley continued to celebrate as the fight was called off it was only when Bruce Buffer read out the decision that it was ruled as a no contest, hence adding another blemish to his supposed “undefeated” record of O’Malley. O’Malley who primarily has a relatively younger fan base further insinuated the idea that Pedro was looking for a way out with the eye poke.
“He didn’t even get a taste”- Brendan Schaub is sad over how things ended for Sean O’Malley at UFC 276
While O’Malley was in the cage he promised Munhoz that they’d run it back, but some expect the UFC would move past this idea, and they’d book O’Malley against someone else. It was O’Malley’s first test against the elites of the division, and fans were left unsatisfied after this unfortunate event.
O’Malley’s resume has been quite impressive but many claims he won’t stand a chance against the elites of the division, former UFC contender, Brendan Schaub too believes O’Malley should not skip a fight against Munhoz because he didn’t actually get a taste of the bantamweight top 10.
Talking about it in his recent YouTube video, he said, “Now we move on and I think that’s actually a problem for Sugar Sean because if the UFC does go, ‘Alright we don’t redo that. He wants to do someone else in the top 10’. You know, it’s gonna be… He didn’t even get a taste of those upper-echelon guys. He didn’t get a taste.”
