Bryce Mitchell is a uniquely loved fighter – he might not possess the oratory skills a Chael Sonnen does, but the truth that he speaks has won him a ton of supporters.
In the lead up to his fight against Ilia Topuria, fans present in Las Vegas could already be seen cheering “Thug Nasty” on during the press conference and the weigh ins, giving him all the support he needed to continue his win streak. However, for all the crowd’s jeers towards Topuria and cheers towards Mitchell, the Spanish fighter’s tirade against his American counterpart was not sullied in the slightest. Beating him with ease on the feet and then besting him at his own game, Topuria caught on to Mitchell, and submitted him with an exquisitely performed head and arm choke.
In the aftermath of the fight, Bryce Mitchell could be seen weighing up his option as per his fighting career. He said, “That’s why I’m just saying I should f*cking retire after that, dude, before I go any further and move on with my life. I’m gonna be done on that one, because I just don’t ever want to feel this much pain.”

He continued, “I’m just going to move on with my life and take all the energy that I spent doing MMA.” Despite his words, much of the MMA community feels like he might continue, as what he said was coloured by the adrenaline and then the dumps he felt during and after the fight, respectively.
Who can Bryce Mitchell fight next, in order to bounce back from the tough loss?

Despite the tough loss to Topuria, let nothing detract one from awarding Mitchell the plaudits that he deserves. In his last fight, he was able to drop Edson Barboza and comfortably eke out a 30-27 victory.
Moving forward, there might a couple of interesting options for Mitchell, should he wish to fight. At #11 in the rankings, the UFC could decide to offer him a match-up against the fighter above him, which is Movsar Evloev, or even have him fight Sodiq Yusuff.
Whatever be the case, it doesn’t feel like we have seen the last of “Thug Nasty” inside the octagon. At just 28 years, the American has a lot of time to improve, and come back stronger with title aspirations.
