UFC superstar Cat Zingano once sued Hollywood’s Halle Berry for causing release from Dana White’s company

Former UFC fighter Cat Zingano made her name in UFC by fighting some of the top dogs. She defeated the G.O.A.T. Amanda Nunes and fought against big names in the woman’s division like Miesha Tate, Julianna Pena, and Ronda Rousey. Although Cat was considered a star among female fighters, she was released by the UFC in 2019. Zingano believes that actor and director Halle Berry was at fault for UFC’s decision and filed a lawsuit against Berry.
Hollywood actor Halle Berry made her directorial debut with the movie Bruised in 2020. The movie features former UFC Women’s flyweight champion, Valentina Shevchenko, and showcases the life of a single mother and MMA fighter played by Halle Berry. Apart from Shevchenko, the movie was supposed to feature another female fighter, Cat Zingano. According to Zingano, she turned down an important fight that would put her closer to a title fight.
After rejecting the offer, Berry informed Zingano that she could not fight and film simultaneously due to insurance reasons. Zingano was eventually released from UFC by Dana White and was also dropped from the movie as well. Following the incident, Zingano and her legal team filed a lawsuit against the actor for her release from UFC.
Zingano’s legal team claimed that her release came as a result of her prioritizing the movie, which was later continued without her. The events of Zingano’s release took place in 2019, but she filed a lawsuit amidst the movie’s release. Zingano as of now has moved under Bellator where she is on a four-fight win streak.
Cat Zingano drops her lawsuit against Halle Berry
Former UFC star fighter Cat Zingano filed a lawsuit against Hollywood actor and director Halle Berry for her movie Bruised. Zingano allegedly turned down a major fight to star in Berry’s MMA-based movie. The movie showcases Halle Berry as a single mother and an MMA fighter trying to have her one last shot at redemption. Berry, who was inspired by Zingano, also wanted her to be a part of the film.
During the case filed by the fighter, Halle Berry’s attorney claimed that White had cut Zingano due to her poor performance as she was 1-4 in her last 5 fights. The actor’s legal team also stated that the lawsuit was an attempt to cash in on Berry’s movie release.
After 17 months of filing the case, Zingano dropped the lawsuit. Cat’s legal team filed requesting the case be dismissed with prejudice. While the reason for Zingano dropping the case happens to be unknown, she won’t be able to file a suit later on. Since her release from UFC, The female fighter is fighting under Bellator’s banner. Zingano is on a four-fight win streak and is expecting a title shot against champion Cris Cyborg.
