The UFC is full of rivalries and drama. These rivalries don’t stop even after the fighters have retired. Jorge Masvidal and Chael Sonnen recently took their rivalry to the next level. Masvidal called out Chael Sonnen for a fight. He threatened to beat Sonnen viciously if they ever fought.
Masvidal said that Sonnen received fight offers against him but declined. ‘Gamebred’ felt that he was ducking him. Fight fans had a genuine interest in the Sonnen – Masvidal beef. Masvidal levied PED accusations on Sonnen and labeled him as a cheater. He said he would love to break Sonnen’s eye orbital. This is what he said:
Just because he is such a cheating f***... At one time he had like 6 or 7 substances in his body for one of his title fights… So, Chael would be someone that I would love to f*** up man. And I would tell him do all the steroids you want, no matter what, I’m still gonna break your f****** eye orbital.Jorge Masvidal via The MMA Hour
Masvidal accused Sonnen of having the most drug substances ever detected in a fighter. He claimed Sonnen once had 6-7 different PEDs in his system for a title fight. Masvidal said no matter how many steroids Sonnen took, he’d still break his orbital bone. Gamebred made it clear that he had no respect for Sonnen as a fighter. He saw Sonnen as a serial drug cheat who ducks real fights.
Masvidal’s insults got very personal regarding Sonnen’s appearance and alleged PED use. Masvidal wanted to fight Sonnen even though they both are retired. He remained confident he would easily defeat Sonnen in any combat sports bout. Masvidal had also called out Justin Gaethje for the BMF title.
Jorge Masvidal and Chael Sonnen beef over Ariel Helwani’s stance on Francis Ngannou
Recently, Chael Sonnen and Jorge Masvidal feuded online. It started after Sonnen argued with journalist Ariel Helwani about Francis Ngannou’s boxing debut. Things got heated, and Sonnen threatened to choke Helwani. Ariel later interviewed Masvidal on his show.
Masvidal called Sonnen a “b**ch” and insulted him. Sonnen reacted by mocking Masvidal as a lackey to Dana White. Masvidal told Sonnen to keep the same energy in person and threatened to fight him. Sonnen ridiculed the idea they’d cross paths since he avoided places like jails where Masvidal may be.
Unlike Sonnen, Masvidal was not previously known for trash talk. But Sonnen drew him into a bitter war of words. It illustrated Sonnen’s ability to garner attention by feuding, even in retirement. Masvidal took the bait and gave Sonnen the headline he likely wanted. The rivalry became personal, with both men taking shots at the other’s character.
