Chael Sonnen- Aljamain Sterling

MMA Legend Chael Sonnen seems to have had enough of the diss over undisputed UFC bantamweight champion Aljamain Sterling and therefore has decided to throw some facts over the haters. Sterling, who earned himself the right to call a UFC champion when he was able to settle the scores against preceding champion Petr Yan in a rematch at UFC 273, was overcoming a lot of hate for his way of accepting the belt as a champion in the first fight due to the controversial win by disqualification.

Since the rematch and winning the decision against Yan, Sterling has been on a worthy parade on the internet of trolling the fans who trolled him. Many people in the MMA community still believe regardless that Yan won the fight. However, Sterling has affirmed that Yan has to earn himself a trilogy against him and meanwhile, he would be interested in having another opponent, either former 2-time bantamweight champion TJ Dillashaw or combat sports legend Henry Cejudo.

On his Youtube channel closing to nearly a million subscribers, Chael Sonnen talks about how the UFC’s bantamweight division is making history in combat sports just by merely being there on the roster. Sonnen talks about how Charles Oliveira had to earn the respect even after being the champion of the ‘hardest division’ in the UFC i.e. lightweight and now he is getting his dues.

“It [transition from dismissal to respect] changes very quickly,” says Sonnen “But if we do look at that and we want to apply that to Aljo [Sterling’s shortname] and we want to try to take away from Sterling, how do we do it when we’re confronted with the fact that there’s seven, possibly eight world champions in the [bantamweight] division which is an all-time record and he sits at the top. How do we do that with a straight face? It makes us look a little bit silly,” he concludes.

Sonnen is not wrong about what he said with regards to the bantamweight division. There are true, one current and 7 former UFC champions in Yan, TJ Dillashaw, Dominick Cruz, Frankie Edgar, Jose Aldo, Henry Cejudo and Cody Garbrandt. Do you now believe that Sterling deserves the best of respect as the current champion? Who do you want to see Sterling fight against next?
