“We can be very cruel,” Chael Sonnen concludes about his temporary back and forth with Chris Curtis on Twitter
Chael Sonnen- Chris Curtis
Chael Sonnen and Chris Curtis are now looking forward to remembering each other in good spirits after a miscommunication issue that is now successfully dismissed. Sonnen is a retired MMA fighter who is a multiple-time UFC title challenger and a former semi-finalist in one of Bellator MMA’s Heavyweight Grand Prix tournaments. Sonnen is now an avid Youtuber and a promoter. Occasionally he can also be seen working as an analyst on the desk of ESPN MMA or in the commentary team of Eagle FC.
Curtis is a middleweight fighter currently signed to the UFC and has formerly been fighting in organizations such as Professional Fighters’ League. Curtis is 8-1 in his last 9 fights with his last fight being a loss against #8 ranked middleweight Jack Hermansson. Curtis is, however, still an exciting prospect and is known for his wins over the likes of Phil Hawes, Andre Fialho, Brendan Allen and many more.
Chael Sonnen encourages fans to reach out to Chris Curtis & leave him a positive note
In one of the videos on his Youtube channel, Sonnen lays out his side of what was going on in his mind while going back and forth on Twitter with Curtis. The beef is now resolved and Sonnen even said that they have talked on the phone for a while.
“I generally come back with venom,” says Sonnen “If you push me I will stab you if you stab me, I will shoot you, if you shoot me I will go kill your family, that kind of mentality right, [but] okay, I’m not doing that… he thought that I talked something bad about him.. he gets back to me and says ‘man, I got this one wrong’…[But] the truth is Curtis reminded us that we can be very cruel… whatever bonus or ideas he had of coming in saving the day, [well] the crowd didn’t love the contest, his opponent apologised, just none of those things [he wished for] happened…
And of all a sudden he is on a commercial flight headed home, sore depressed, going to his social media for a little bit of attention on an 11-hour plane, it was negative, he was a real guy in a real spot… he is a human being” Sonnen continued. In the end, Sonnen encourages his fans to reach out to Curtis and let him know the awesome fighter he is in a positive manner.
What do you make of Sonnen’s final thoughts on the now resolved Curtis beef? Do you think athletes should be able to give out a pass for their frustration after a loss or should they rather keep a check on themselves and refrain from using the phone and reacting to people? Who do you want Curtis to fight next? Where do you put Sonnen amongst the most entertaining fighters of all time?
