Petr Yan- Chael Sonnen- Sean O'Malley

You can confirm from an MMA legend like Chael Sonnen which fights are likely to be nodded upon by the UFC matchmakers and which fights are far from approval. Sonnen has given 2 decades of his life to competing in MMA and has seen the sport change and grow enough to figure out the keys used in opening the locks to possible fights or even making it big through the entertainment aspect of the fight industry. Sonnen retired in 2019 and has been an avid Youtuber with a solid subscriber count of 1 million and going!

Sonnen, a former multiple-time UFC title challenger at middleweight and light heavyweight, has ironically shown more interest in the lighter weight classes and bantamweight is one of them. For a division to host 1 sitting champion and more than 5 former world champions, Sonnen is intrigued by how things are turning out for the potential UFC megastar Sean O’Malley in the division. O’Malley has been uncertain about his next fight due to the no-contest result of his last fight.

Sonnen has discussed vastly on one of the videos on his Youtube channel regarding who could be the possible next opponent for O’Malley, he even left the opinion to stand open for his audience at the end of it. However, Sonnen believes that there’s one matchup we as fans can be excited about but the UFC won’t take a chance in making it happen right now.

“That’s a mess right there,” says Sonnen “And I tell you from a booking standpoint I don’t believe that Sean and [Petr] Yan are going to be next, I think it creates problems, I think you got two absolute top guys. And if you put them together, do you have any massive fight that’s what everybody thinks. On the other side of the coin, the problem you created is you just eliminated one. I don’t think, the UFC is going to go in that direction right now…” he continues.

What do you make of this reluctance by the UFC in making O’Malley fight former UFC bantamweight champion, Petr Yan as Sonnen is predicting? Do you think he is right? Do you think O’Malley versus Yan should happen irrespective of the amount of risk involved since they both represent UFC’s establishment of exciting fighters to watch out for, or is waiting for the right time the only right thing right now? Who do you think O’Malley and Yan should fight next if not each other?
