“He MIGHT be the GREATEST middleweight of all time,” Chael Sonnen LEAPS LIMITS in praising Luke Rockhold after UFC 278

Luke Rockhold sure has a legacy that speaks volumes, but for Chael Sonnen, he might be at the top of the history of the middleweight mountain. Rockhold, the former Strikeforce and the former UFC middleweight champion is a retired fighter who’s 16-6 in his overall MMA career with 14 wins via finishes. Rockhold is known for his wins over the likes of Chris Weidman, Lyoto Machida, Michael Bisping, Tim Kennedy, Ronaldo Souza, David Branch, Tim Boetsch and many more.

Rockhold, who was in a sort of downfall by the end of his career, was returning to the Octagon this past weekend after 3 years, after suffering back-to-back knockout defeats at the hands of Yoel Romero and Jan Blachowicz. Rockhold was facing UFC middleweight Paulo Costa in the co-main of UFC 278. The fight didn’t go in Rockhold’s favour as he started losing his stamina by the end of the third round. Yet, there were moments when Rockhold made the crowd believe that he can pull off an upsetting victory. But in the end, Costa reigned supreme and won via unanimous decision.

Chael Sonnen says that he is not convinced that any middleweight could beat THIS version of Luke Rockhold

In one of the videos on his Youtube channel, Sonnen reacts to Rockhold’s bloody and entertaining war against Costa and reflects on the former champion’s legacy as he bid farewell to the sport of MMA indicating retirement. Sonnen pulls out the debate of who the greatest middleweight of all time is. Sonnen is baffled by the fact that how we measure greatness only by measuring resumes but not by the nights the fighter stands out special inside the Octagon. Followed by this, Sonnen gives a very bold statement.

“I’m telling you, if you want to have who the greatest middleweight of all time is, it might be Luke Rockhold, truly,” says Sonnen. “The Luke Rockhold that defeated Chris Weidman [at UFC 194], I’m not convinced, that there has been a middleweight yet, that can beat him. And maybe there is, I’m just telling you I am not convinced that there is, that’s how good Luke is…” continues Sonnen.
