Khamzat Chimaev vs. Paulo Costa is one of the most-anticipated fights of the year. Former UFC star Chael Sonnen has an interesting proposal for the backup fighter of the exciting bout. And no, it is not any other middleweight fighter. Sonnen throws in former welterweight king, Kamaru Usman as the backup for UFC 294 co-main event.
Chael Sonnen believes the match might just fall into the happenstance of falling through. He believes Usman should be a backup just in case, and could definitely pull his weight, but not for the lack of trying. He mentions, “That is a meaningful guy that deserves more respect than he is being shown now. If he doesn’t want to fight we’re having a totally different conversation; no problem…he has definitely done enough. But that’s not what we’re being told; we’re being told just the opposite!”
Having followed Usman as a wrestler tackling 184 pounds, he knows size is no obstacle for him. “I mean not for nothing he could go 185. And the reason I like that… I like the parody. it’s an easier weight class, right? As you get older you’re always looking for something easier to do the higher you go,” said Sonnen. He knows Usman was willing to fight Khmazat Chimaev, but opted out of 185 pounds. Because it would have resulted in a number one contender’s match. And with Izzy not being the champ, it would have changed a lot of dynamics.
UFC 294 is a PPV event that is not to be missed. The event takes place in Abu Dhabi and will have Islam Makhachev take on Charles Oliveira for the lightweight title in the main event. Khamzat Chimaev is however still continuing to be the main attraction of the stacked card.
Khamzat Chimaev superimposes the idea of defeating Jake Paul and Logan Paul on the same night
At this point, it is no surprise when a veteran or any Ultimate fighting star challenges the boxing brother duo. New to that list is Khamzat Chimaev who has said he can defeat Jake Paul and Logan Paul on the same night. In a very recent tweet, Chimaev rigorously embeds the idea that he would “smash” the brothers, not just overgrapple them. That too in the lion’s den itself; boxing.
Chimaev further went on to mention that the Paul brothers know this to be true, in another tweet. He posted a picture of a training session of him and Logan, with other people at an unknown location. By now, the Paul brothers are fresh meat for any MMA entity trying to test out their skills in other areas. However, this might not be on the card any soon. Dana White has purposely stated that he does not want their inclusion. This goes double for Jake Paul, after an overt feud.
Khamzat Chimaev is coming off a submission win over Kevin Holland at UFC 279. After the Chechen fighter’s recent weigh-in mishap, looks like the 185-pound division is his future.
