“Love the fight but-” Chael Sonnen states the only setback for Conor McGregor vs Justin Gaethje fight to happen
Conor McGregor- Chael Sonnen- Justin Gaethje
MMA Legend Chael Sonnen knows a thing or two about fighting, and a thing or two about matchmaking as well. There are a lot of fighters left to empty their tank for 2022, the lightweight division just has the highest number of those athletes. Charles Oliveira, the former champion who once held the once vacant lightweight champion is now busy as he gets the second fight of his year when he will face the #4 ranked fighter Islam Makhachev.
Before Makhachev are 2 former interim champions in the rankings, Dustin Poirier and Justin Gaethje. Poirier has been calling for his first fight of this year since the beginning of the year but hasn’t got anything signed up yet. Gaethje just fought in May as he lost his second title shot to Oliveira. Other than that, in the comparatively lower rankings, Michael Chandler and Beneil Dariush are extremely looking for a fight as well, and adding more on it, not certainly but most likely, UFC megastar Conor McGregor would step foot in the 155 lbs division as well on his return.
Chael Sonnen says Conor McGregor at 155 lbs is not possible without a title on the line
In one of the videos on his Youtube Channel, Chael Sonnen talks about multiple things ahead of his break from Youtube which includes talking about the weight clause on Jake Paul fight with Hasim Rahman Jr, Michelle Waterson’s fighting career ahead and much more. Sonnen also talks about how a fan favourite matchup between Conor McGregor and Justin Gaethje is a fantastic one but not pragmatic one to happen.
“Conor is still the biggest star, I love the fight with Gaethje, sure that would be a ton of fun,” says Sonnen “I don’t believe you’re going to get Conor down to 155 lbs if you don’t have a belt up. So start with that… Why would Conor come down and take on a guy that just lost, he doesn’t see himself like that, stop saying stupid things…” he continued.
What do you make of Sonnen’s thoughts on the match between McGregor and Gaethje? Do you agree with him? Who do you think would win between McGregor and Gaethje if the fight happens? Both are very seasoned strikers and both have a way of finding their shots accurately in the midst of a chaos, so it will be a banger of a fight if it happens.
