“Gotta be able to replace that” – Chael Sonnen thinks if Alex Periera wins at UFC 281 it will be DISASTROUS

Chael Sonnen discusses Middleweight title clash at UFC 281
MMA vet Chael Sonnen shares what will happen if Alex Pereira defeats Israel Adesanya for the third time. Both the middleweights are set to clash in the main event of the UFC 281. The card is set for November in the iconic MSG Arena, New York.
Both the fighters have a history with each other coming into this fight. They have faced each other in Kickboxing twice. Pereira has picked up the win both times over the current UFC 185 kingpin. While the first fight was a decision win, the second fight ended in a vicious KO of the Stylebender by Poatan.
Israel Adesanya is currently on a 3-fight win streak after an unsuccessful attempt at capturing the Light Heavyweight gold. He is currently undefeated in the Middleweight division. After capturing the title from the hands of Robert Whittaker at UFC 243, Izzy has defended the title 5 times. He recently defended his title against Jared Cannonier at UFC 276.
On the other hand, Alex Pereira is a former two-weight GLORY kickboxing champion. He transitioned into MMA and made his UFC debut in 2021. He is on a 3 fight win streak in the UFC. In his last outing, he KO’d Sean Strickland in a barbaric fashion at UFC 276 in the very first round.
Chael Sonnen doesn’t think Alex Pereira can spell entertain
Poatan is the only fighter to have knocked out the Last Stylebender in combat sports. This is the reason a lot of fans and media are excited to see how these two matchup in MMA with 4oz gloves. Izzy has never been defeated in the Middleweight division in MMA. It would also be an interesting fight to see as the Poatan’s ground game isn’t believed to be good. Since it’s an MMA bout there is a possibility of Izzy wrestling in the fight.
MMA legend and fan favourite Chael Sonnen shared his thoughts on the fight. The Bad Guy spoke about the fight on his YouTube channel stating that if Poatan beats Izzy for the third time, it will mean a big disaster for the UFC. He went on to clarify that, unlike Izzy, Poatan isn’t a very great ‘marketer’.
Sonnen stated, “So Pereira’s done a really great job. But he is absolutely double-crossing his partners. He is. He has a job to come out and sell and to build this fight. And if he wins this fight, he now takes the division on his shoulders. If he’s going to take the reins from Adesanya, you gotta look at everything that Adesanya is doing. You gotta be able to replace that and more. We’re not even in the conversation! Let alone going to achieve those things.”
Continuing he spoke on the scenario if Poatan wins, “It would be a disaster if Pereira were to win that fight, add that to the promotional tools. You have one of the great marketers in the sport who cares about the audience, he cares enough to bring you guys entertainment. Versus a guy (Pereira) who doesn’t. Who I’m not positive could spell entertain – just doesn’t get that side of it.”
