“He had no plans to make weight,” Chael Sonnen formulates Hasim Rahman Jr’s way to fight and benefit from Jake Paul

Hasim Rahman Jr- Chael Sonnen

Chael Sonnen is still not fond of Hasim Rahman Jr missing weight in his fight against Jake Paul, even when Sonnen can see from where Rahman is coming. Rahman Jr is a 12-1 professional boxer with a prior experience of over 100 amateur fights and is the son of former heavyweight champion of the world Hasim Rahman Sr. Rahman Jr was supposed to fight Paul with over a month’s notice and was asked to weigh 200 lbs on the day of weigh-ins.

However, even 6 days before the fight Rahman Jr did not go any less than 215 lbs and was asked to not make him go any lower as his body won’t allow it. Paul at best could only negotiate for 205 lbs but since neither side compromised any further, the entire card to be held inside MSG was called off. Today the internet is vastly divided into who’s at fault. Fans but many famous combat sports figures are giving their verdicts about who’s at fault.

In one of the videos on his Youtube Channel, Chael Sonnen talks about how Rahman Jr wanted to plan the fight in his favor without doing the due work of the appropriate weight loss as per the contract for the Jake Paul fight.

“Ramen had no plans whatsoever to make 200 pounds or report back at 210. He looked at that contract and said ‘I’m gonna give up all of my money, all of it. I’m gonna fight him for 5,000 dollars, it’s going to give me a better chance. I am going to beat this guy. And the fame and celebrity I am going to get, I will parlay all of this to get the money that I lost but here’s my plan’…” says Sonnen.

What do you make of Sonnen’s theory on Rahman Jr’s reason for not making weight? Do you agree with Sonnen? Who do you think wins between Paul and Rahman Jr if they ever think of booking the fight again? Do you think the boxing community is scared of fighting Paul? Or is this Paul’s world and things go his way rather than neutrally?
