Jorge Masvidal and Colby Covington were once dear friends. Their long-running rivalry began due to a monetary dispute between Covington and one of Masvidal’s coaches. During the build-up to their highly anticipated showdown at UFC 272, the two competitors’ rivalry erupted into personal and aggressive trash-talking.

Jorge Masvidal allegedly assaulted Covington outside a Miami restaurant. He’s now facing charges for it. Masvidal denies the claims and allegations against him.

Masvidal maintained his innocence, pointing out that the attacker was wearing a COVID mask, something he swore he would never do. Jorge’s aggravated battery charge in Florida was a third-degree felony. According to court records, the State Attorney’s office has opted not to pursue an indictment on that charge. Masvidal’s charge for aggravated violence while wearing a hood or mask was later marked “NO ACTION.” Masvidal had vowed on Joe Rogan’s podcast to eliminate Colby Covington in the octagon. Since he announced his retirement, we may not get to see another Covington vs Masvidal even though it isn’t uncommon for fighters to come out of retirement.
