In a recent interview, Colby Covington downplays Leon Edwards' popularity, questioning his ability to draw significant attention to their upcoming welterweight title fight at UFC 296.

Colby Covington is one of Donald Trump‘s favorite fighters in the UFC. Similarly, Covington is an ardent supporter of Trump and is extremely proud of it. ‘Chaos’ recently had an appearance on Check In with Daniel Cormier. He was very critical of Leon Edwards‘ unpopularity.

During the interview, Covington bashed Edwards. This is what he said in the interview.

Everybody knows I'm on the A-side in this fight. No one wants to show up to watch Leon. Is he bringing the royal family? No. Is he bringing the Spice Girls? No. Is he bringing Barington the bear ? or whatever his name is? No. Is he bringing double 7? No.....He's not bringing nobody. Nobody cares about him, dude. I'm bringing the most famous person on Earth on Saturday night.

Covington does not think that Edwards brings eyeballs to the fight. He thinks that he is the one selling the fight and not Edwards. Covington is a polarizing figure and brings eyeballs to any event he is part of. He headlined a non-title PPV with Jorge Masvidal at UFC 272. Moreover, Donald Trump will attend the event.

Covington’s last appearance inside the octagon was against Masvidal in March of 2022. However, he weighed in as the backup at UFC 286 when Edwards defended the title against Kamaru Usman. Belal Muhammad is the backup fighter for the bout.

I mean, there's people that are in England that are a lot more famous than Leon Scott, so you know, now his new nickname is 'Low IQ Leon'.

After explaining the reason, Covington gave a new nickname to Edwards, which is ‘Low IQ Leon’. Previously, he has used Kamaru Usman’s father’s jail time against Usman. Moreover, he has even talked about Dustin Poirier’s wife in a negative light. So, it is not a surprise to see him address Edwards as a person with a low IQ.
