There is no doubt that UFC welterweight contender Colby Covington is one of the most outspoken fighters. Covington is known for his outspoken persona which has landed him in controversy many times. However, Covington is popular for trash-talking his opponents and calling them out for “ducking him”. He recently called out Chechen superstar Khamzat Chimaev for the same.
Covington recently gave an interview with MMA journalist James Lynch. During the interview, Covington discussed his potential opponents for the future and dismantled Chimaev for moving up to middleweight. He said, “He ran from me, the dog-faced looking motherf***er was scared sh*tless. That’s the reason it took so long for me to get a fight”. He said that Chimaev was not able to make weight.
Covington believes that Chimaev moved up in weight because he was not able to make weight and did not want to fight him. However, Chimaev has expressed his wish to fight Covington many times in the past. Both Covington and Chimaev have gone back and forth on social media multiple times. Covington has denied Chimaev’s claims and has said that Borz refused to fight him four times.
Chimaev last fought in the 170-pound division in April 2022 and has since moved up to middleweight. He is gearing up to face former title challenger Paulo Costa at UFC 294. However, a fight between Covington and Chimaev is not off the cards as the two may fight each other in the future.
