Renato Moicano recently made an interesting statement about welterweight star Colby Covington. According to Moicano, Covington seems to be afraid of facing undefeated contender Shavkat Rakhmanov. Here is what happened:
Renato Moicano recently went on the ‘Show me the Money‘ podcast. There he was asked about his thoughts on the situation going on between Colby Covington and Ian Garry. However, Moicano rather gave his opinion on Covington and Rakhmonov:
I think Colby is afraid to fight Shakivat Hakhmonov. Fu*k, the Kazakhstan guy, Gilbert knows his potential. He sees a way of avoiding Shavkat Rakmonov.Renato Moicano via Show me the Money
Covington and Ian Machado Garry are currently going for each other’s throats on social media. ‘Chaos’ had recently put up a post where he called out Garry and set up his conditions for a potential fight in the UFC octagon. Garry replied to the same and asked Covington to sign the contract, implying that the young MMA contender is ready to take him on in the octagon. However, Moicano believes that this is a cover for Covington to avoid Shavkat Rakhamnov after he called Covington out ahead of UFC 296.
Rakhmonov is yet to taste his first professional defeat in the octagon. The Kazakh fighter is quickly climbing up the rankings in the welterweight division and Covington soon may have to take him on. Covington’s last fight was against division champion Leon Edwards which he lost by unanimous decision.
Meanwhile, Rakhmanov has won all of his six of his UFC fights by submission and one first-round knockout. His last bout was against Stephen Thompson at UFC 296 whom he submitted in the second round with a rear naked choke.
What does Colby Covington say about fighting Ian Garry?
‘Chaos’ was recently present at the SOSCAST podcast. There he talked about his potential return to the octagon after fighting Edwards. Covington revealed that he wants to make his comeback in a grand manner at the International Fight Week this June.
Covington said that he always brings in big pay-per-view numbers every time he fights, and he wants to do the same again at a big event. Therefore, he is aiming for International Fight Week, which according to him is the biggest event the UFC conducts. However, Covington said it does not matter who he fights. He said he will take on Garry if he fulfills his conditions although he is not too worried about it. His main focus is currently to move up the rankings.
International Fight Week will take place at UFC 303 event at the T-Mobile Arena, in Las Vegas. Only one fight has been officially declared, although according to leaked reports from one of the contenders, this could be the big fight Conor McGregor makes his return in. It will be interesting to see what happens at International Fight Week this June.
