Conor McGregor is a name that is prominent in the combative sports industry. The fighter has recently grabbed headlines for speaking out on the Dublin riots. His stance on the matter and fearlessness make him worthy of an administrative position. McGregor had also recently acclimated to the ideas of such political aspirations of legitimate runs for office and leadership roles.
The Irishman’s aspirations to become president of Ireland have seen a very lousy kick-off. Having garnered the support of no independent TDs (Teachtaí Dála) or senators to back him, Conor McGregor’s goals have fallen flat. Moreover, Senator Eileen Flynn recently berated these political strivings, dismissing McGregor as someone mundane. Taking to X, in a classic McGregor fashion, The “Notorious” left a voice note. This is what he said:
Senator Flynn, Senator Eileen Flynn has said that she wouldn't nominate me "to wash the dishes", how disrespectful. Senator - I nominate you to brush your teeth, and see the dentist! Because if there ever was a cause to bring back masks, I would call for it. You weren't even voted in; you were nominated as a token...Conor McGregor mocks Eilieen Flynn
Senator Flynn is a Traveller Rights Activist and also the first Traveller elected to the Seanad in 2020. McGregor has dissed her role and exemplary promotion from the activist status. The fighter threw shade at her being chosen as a “token” rather than being elected. Many, including a few peers, have lauded McGregor’s political goals.
Conor McGregor will make his return to the octagon in 2024. He incurred a leg injury in the last of his trilogy bout against Dustin Poirier. Since then, the fighter has undergone surgery and titanium insertion. McGregor is now in top-notch form and has given many updates on his sparring to get back in action. He also recently announced that he would “be in” for UFC 300.
Conor McGregor teases possible run for Irish presidency
UFC Superstar Conor McGregor had recently flirted with the notion of a presidential run. This came in the face of the sociopolitical unrest of the Dublin riots. He accused the main parties in Ireland’s government of leeching off on power struggles instead of seeking actual change. McGregor also argued that if a “power shift” were to start, things would change for the better.
McGregor has been overt about his desire for immigration reforms at home. In the past, he has spoken about the death of 23-year-old Irish teacher and musician Ashling Murphy, who was stabbed to death in 2022. McGregor’s opinions have started to threaten the power of Irish elites as they don’t want McGregor to run for President. They have fired back at McGregor in the form of an investigation against him for hate speech.
The hit-pieces have started to gain traction against McGregor. On the other hand, McGregor’s playful indication of a presidential run also garnered support from Elon Musk. The billionaire sensation even instigated that with the gravitas McGregor holds over fan sentiments, it would be unfair to his rivals.
