Conor McGregor

Conor McGregor is without doubt, the biggest star the MMA world has ever seen. He has brought to the sport a plethora of newer eyeballs, whether it be the ordinary folk or celebrities who tune in just to be able to witness the name ‘’’McGregor” in action.

When Conor McGregor crossed over to boxing in 2017 – that too the second highest grossing boxing bout of all time (against the undefeated Floyd Mayweather), people thought there was no stopping the then-young Irish from his ascent to the very top of the fight world.

Since, however, the fighter’s air of invincibility and his star has taken somewhat of a minor beating. After losing to Mayweather, McGregor stayed away from the limelight a bit, before finally announcing himself back to the MMA world when he threw a ‘’dolly’’ at the bus carrying Khabib Nurmagomedov.

After getting submitted by Khabib, he has gone on to defeat “Cowboy” Cerrone at Welterweight, and also lose to Dustin Poirier twice, albeit, once by doctor stoppage.

The doctor stoppage mentioned was by far McGregor’s gnarliest injury – according to many people (although, contrary to what he believes!), Dustin Poirier checked a leg kick of his which resulted in a splinter in the shin. Upon putting weight on the shin, it shattered, leaving McGregor helpless to a flurry of ground and pound strikes which could have ended the fight right then.

McGregor hasn’t fought in the 14 months that have elapsed since he got injured. While MMA fans are growing restless for the comeback of the star, Conor has decided to take his talents elsewhere whilst he heals properly.

In August, official news came out about Conor McGregor starring in Jake Gyllenhaal-led “Roadhouse”, which is a reboot of the classic. While it has been confirmed that Gyllenhaal will play an ex-UFC fighter turned bouncer cleaning up a rough bar, what role the Irishman plays is yet to be known. In a video posted to his Instagram recently, McGregor has now given the fans a glimpse into what it is like being a movie star, showing his ability to listen to the instructions of the people who are directing the film.

While he is exploring other interests outside the octagon. McGregor has not forgotten his roots – he plans to make his comeback to the octagon in 2023, with there always being speculation of who he is going to face.

In an interview with MMAJunkie, Tim Simpson, Senior VP of Paradigm Sports (McGregor’s managemen agency) said of McGregor,” A fun little venture then switching back to climbing the mountain again. It fits in perfectly. He’s still on track for a big return next year.”

Clearly, Conor McGregor has not abandoned the octagon just yet – just that he plans to enjoy some time outside of it till he can envisage and enact an almighty comeback.
