Conor McGregor appears determined about facing Nate Diaz in the third match of his trilogy. The Irishman recently called Diaz’s forthcoming professional boxing debut against Jake Paul “nonsense” and assured supporters they will see the two former rivals square off for the BMF title in their third fight.
McGregor went on social media and made a tweet in which he wrote: “Regardless of that nonsense match, me and Nate will be completing the trilogy. I am going to grab that BMF belt right quick for us to compete for it in the trilogy.”
The McGregor vs Diaz rivalry goes way back to UFC 196 when McGregor made his welterweight debut against Diaz. The Irishman entered this bout as a heavy favorite after two straight knockout victories over Jose Aldo and Chad Mendes. However, Diaz shocked the whole world as he won via submission in the second round to end McGregor’s undefeated record in the promotion.
In their instant rematch at UFC 202, Conor McGregor avenged his defeat by defeating Nate Diaz by a majority decision. Both of the bouts were preceded by trash-talking, and the two never missed an opportunity to make fun of one another.
Nate Diaz reveals why he was out for three years after the Conor McGregor fight
Nate Diaz and Conor McGregor fought each other consecutively twice in 2016 and after losing the second fight, Diaz wasn’t active for three years. During a recent interview, Diaz revealed that he took a break because there was nobody else to fight.
He said: “There’s nobody to fight. When I fought Conor and I didn’t fight for three years it wasn’t because I was sitting there waiting Conor. They were like ‘he’s waiting for Conor. I ain’t waiting for Conor, I was waiting for something cool. Nobody was on a level, someone worth fighting then when I finally came back Masvidal had knocked out Ben Askren with a knee and I was like ‘that was cool’, that was the only cool thing that happened while I was gone.”
According to the Stockton native, he waited for some cool opportunity but nothing took place until the famous fight between Jorge Masvidal and Ben Askren which caught his attention.
