After his exit from the UFC, former UFC heavyweight champ Francis Ngannou plans to make his professional boxing debut. Before his exit, many predictions were made regarding Ngannou’s future in combat sports. In the latest interview, his biggest rival, Curtis Blaydes, predicted the future of ‘Predator’ in boxing.
Both competitors have faced each other in the Octagon twice, and both times Francis registered the win over Curtis. He thinks Francis Ngannou will perform better than Conor McGregor in his boxing debut.
Curtis Blaydes, while talking to MMA Fighting before his upcoming matchup at UFC Night 222 against Russian fighter Sergei Pavlovich, he said, “The only reason he has a chance to beat those guys is because it’s heavyweight. If he was 155 like McGregor [no chance].” So according to him, chances are high for Francis because of his size and the heavyweight that he carries.
Blaydes explained why he thinks Francis can be the winner. “I never thought [Conor] was actually going to beat Floyd. Not for one second because it’s not heavyweight. He doesn’t have that one-punch knockout power, especially with those big gloves on.” The science behind this is that boxing gloves are bigger than normal UFC gloves, where a fighter’s hands don’t wave easily.

Curtis thinks only the weight and size are what will give Francis Ngannou the win
He says he never thought Conor McGregor would ever beat Floyd, but thinks Ngannou can beat the best boxers because of his heavyweight power. For someone who has enough size to handle big boxing gloves, the movement will not slow down the punching power.
But as you start using boxing gloves for a lightweight fighter, it will not be easy to get the knockout as heavyweight fighters do. Curtis also shared his experience. “I’ve sparred with big gloves and I’ve sparred with little gloves. They’re different sports. The things you can get away with doing with big gloves and the things you can get away with, with small gloves, it’s a different sport.”
Respectfully, Curtis Blaydes, using Conor McGregor’s example, stated that “Without small gloves, McGregor had no chance against a guy like Floyd. Ngannou is a heavyweight. He hits you one time, even with those gloves on, you can go to sleep. He’s got a shot.”
Right now, no announcement has been made about the Predator, but he has been spotted wearing boxing gloves.
