Dan Hooker calls “BS” on Islam Makhachev claiming he can easily beat Alexander Volkanovski. The Kiwi fighter warns the Dagestani ahead of his super fight against the featherweight champ.
The general consensus leading up to the Alexander Volkanovski vs. Islam Makhachev title fight is that the Dagestani is too powerful not to hold down the featherweight champion on the ground. However, Dan Hooker is here to say that is completely not true. In a recent interview with Submission Radio, the P4P king’s teammate says Team Khabib is in for a surprise.
“I feel like they’re doing it because obviously, it is a chance at the number one pound-for-pound, but I feel like they’re kind of looking down on him,” said Hooker in the Submission Radio interview. “The Hangman” believes Islam and Khabib think it will be very easy to hold down the featherweight champ but says it is the complete opposite.
“They’re in for a whole lot of trouble. There’s an incredibly difficult man to hold on the ground. He keeps saying he’s short and stuff like that but holding a guy that is that stocky on the ground is incredibly difficult,” said Hooker. Dan “The Hangman” Hooker trains with Alexander “The Great” Volkanovski at City Kickboxing and have tested each other multiple times.
Alexander Volkanovski claims Islam Makhachev can’t hold him down
Islam Makhachev did not take too long to call his next opponent out after his win at UFC 280. The new lightweight champion wants the P4P number one spot and is ready to put his lightweight belt on the line in his next fight against Alexander Volkanovski. Makhachev is very confident he can take down the featherweight king and finish him there. However, Volkanovski begs to differ.
“I feel like he’s sort of underestimating me in a sense,” said Volkanovski in an interview with Submission Radio. The P4P champ is confident that he can get back up from any position if Islam Makhachev does take him down. “Put me in the sh*ttiest positions you can. I ain’t going to be fazed by it. I guarantee you I’m getting back up,” added the featherweight champ.
Volkanovski has been eyeing the lightweight belt for quite some time now and Makhachev is determined to become the UFC’s pound-for-pound champion. Both the champs have agreed to fight in Volkanovski’s backyard at UFC Perth. How excited are you for this matchup?
