‘The Sphere’ is one of the biggest and most technologically advanced arenas currently available in the world. Unsurprisingly, Dana White wants in on it. The UFC CEO has planned to host a massive PPV event in the arena. Here is what happened:
UFC CEO, Dana White recently went on the Lex Fridman podcast. There he talked about hosting a live PPV UFC event in The Sphere.
It'll be live in the pay-per-view. It'll be live in the arena. And it will also be in movie theatres...ESPN's doing a doc on it. 'The Making of The Sphere' yeah...Oh yeah, I feel incredible about it. I can't wait, it's going to be fun.Dana White via Lex Fridman
The Sphere is a concert venue in Las Vegas that opened to the public last year and immediately went viral on the internet. It is located just off the Las Vegas Strip and spans about 18 acres. The Sphere is the world’s largest spherical building and has a 16K resolution wraparound interior LED screen. It can accommodate 18,600 people, all with high-speed internet access. Construction began in 2019 and it cost the company over $2.3 billion to complete the project.
White previously announced that the UFC will host its UFC 306 PPV event this September at the Las Vegas Sphere. This fight card has the potential to be one of the big PPV events the UFC has hosted, which means the UFC boss must be curating an interesting fight card. There have been rumors that UFC superstar Conor McGregor has planned to make an entry in the Mexican Independence Day event.
Dana White declares UFC’s first-ever event in Saudi Arabia
UFC CEO Dana White recently announced the Robert Whittaker vs Khamzat Chimaev fight card on social media. This will be the UFC’s first-ever PPV event in Saudi Arabia in 2024. The fight is scheduled for this year in June and will make UFC’s entry into the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia which has recently taken an interest in hosting some of the biggest sporting events.
The fight will air live on ABC and see Whittaker and Chimaev fight for the position of the no. 1 contender in the middleweight division. Whittaker is a former champion while Chimaev is an up-and-coming star who has yet to taste defeat.
Chimaev had previously beaten former champion Kamaru Usman at UFC 294. Meanwhile, Whittaker is coming off of a recent victory over Paulo Costa at UFC 298. Sergei Pavlovich and Alexander Volkov will headline the co-main event.
