Georges St-Pierre told what happened to Kamaru Usman and Henry Cejudo in a podcast episode. He recalled a conversation with Dana White about fighting De La Hoya. White did not like the idea and refused to let GSP fight De La Hoya. This is what Georges St-Pierre said:

It did not happen because Dana White told me, he's like no; Dana White hate Oscar De La Hoya...I still have ties with the UFC. And Dana, when I asked him the permission was like, I can't say it the way he said it...'F that guy, don't F that guy'... I was like okay, it's alright.

Georges St-Pierre ended up not fighting Oscar De La Hoya, which would have been one exciting bout to witness. Instead, Dana White made plans to set him up with Khabib Nurmagomedov. The prospective fight stalled for various reasons, and Georges St-Pierre announced his retirement in 2019. Then, in 2020, Khabib Nurmagomedov announced his retirement after going undefeated throughout his career.

The animosity between Dana White and Oscar De La Hoya led to a dream fight from happening. Interestingly, their feud started because of a boxing match. It was the biggest crossover fight in history when Conor McGregor took on Floyd Mayweather in the boxing ring.

Oscar De La Hoya did not like this matchup. Meanwhile, Dana White was one of the reasons why this fight happened in the first place. De La Hoya severely criticized the entire event, and Dana White shot back at De La Hoya’s past in response to his criticism. The beef between De La Hoya and White led GSP to not have a boxing bout against a legendary opponent.

How would Georges St-Pierre vs. Oscar De La Hoya play out if Dana White had allowed it happen?

St-Pierre revealed to Ariel Helwani in 2021 that he tried to convince Dana White to sign off on a GSP vs. De La Hoya bout. The fight almost happened, but neither of them was in their prime anymore. Moreover, the UFC CEO refused to allow GSP to fight the legendary boxer.

St-Pierre revealed to Kamaru Usman and Henry Cejudo about the details surrounding the proposed bout. He said that they would fight with bigger 16-ounce sparring gloves. GSP made his point about why he believed he could beat Oscar De La Hoya in a boxing match. GSP cited the age difference as the first reason.

Georges St-Pierre acknowledged that he did not have the boxing prowess of a prime Oscar De La Hoya. But because he was eight years younger than him, GSP believed he had a chance. Moreover, boxers fighting in their 50s against younger opponents would result in chaos.
