After the DWCS season 6 week 5, UFC President Dana White while talking to the media in the post-fight conference gave an update on Kamaru Usman. The UFC President was addressing the media after the DWCS Week 5 when he was asked about the current state of the former champion.

Usman was on a dominant run in the Welterweight division and was close to tying Anderson Silva for a 16-fight win streak. This was his sixth title defence and he was on a 15-fight winning streak in the UFC. However, his hopes got shattered by the challenger Leon Edwards as he snatched the title away from the champion. Breaking his winning streak in the process.

Although the champion was winning the fight by a huge margin on the Judge’s scorecard going into the fifth and final round at UFC 278. A head kick out of nowhere by the challenge at the very last minute of the fight sent the champion crashing on the mat. This was the champion’s first defeat in the UFC.

Following his loss, the former champion reflected on the mistake that cost him the title in the main event last weekend. Kamaru went on to congratulate the new champion on the victory. He also called for a trilogy match with Leon Edwards. The former P4P king also stated that he is looking for vengeance in the trilogy.

In the DWCS post-fight press conference Dana while talking to the media gave an update on the former champion and his current state. When asked if he had any conversation with Kamaru after his devastating loss at the hand of Leon Edwards.

White stated that the former champion is in great spirits and is looking forward to the rubber match with Edwards. He also stated that the former champions feel that pressure has been lifted from his shoulders.

Dana stated, “We talked, He’s in great spirits, Obviously he wants the rematch bad, but he said, ‘I can’t tell you the weight that’s been lifted off me.’ There’s a lot of pressure that goes along with the run that he was on and tying and breaking Anderson’s record. All that stuff, there’s a lot of pressure. So, he’s looking forward to the rematch.”

The UFC president also had high praise for the new champion and even stated that he had a run of bad luck in recent times. He also revealed that the new champion is ready to defend his title. White also told the media that he is legit and was ready to fight anybody, just had a string of bad luck.

“He’s down. He’s ready to defend, He’s ready to take on whatever it is. He’s going on a whirlwind media tour when he goes home. A lot of stuff changes when you get that belt, so his whole world is about to change in the next few weeks, but he’s ready for it.” White stated.
