Dana White recently shared a fierce response from lightweight champion, Islam Makhachev. The response came after White proposed a short-notice rematch against featherweight champion, Alexander Volkanovski on just ten days notice. This was after Charles Oliveira pulled out due to injury.

White was a recent guest on the ESPN podcast of Pat McAfee. There, White was asked about the change in fighters at UFC 294. To drive home his point to McAfee, White took his phone and read out what Islam Makhachev said when asked about whether he would face Alexander Volkanovski on short notice.

The message read, “What does this title represent? It means you are the best in the world. And if youre best in the world, it doesn’t matter who is standing across from you. What do I say? No? NEVER! LETS DO THIS!” McAfee was awestruck and replied, “Feels like you got the right guys.” White further elaborated on his respect for his fighters and said, “Proud moment for me to have these types of s*vages fighting in Abu Dhabi.”

The MMA community has since been abuzz with chatter about the revamped matchup at UFC 294. Makhachev’s audacity and willingness were shown when he accepted the matchup. Further praise was hailed towards Volkanovski for stepping in on short notice. The fighters had a memorable encounter at UFC 284 in Perth, Australia. In the aftermath of the event, Volkanovski and Makhachev talked about a rematch in Abu Dhabi. The UFC brass was not interested in it at the moment but circumstances made it possible.

Alexander Volkanovski was Islam Makhachev’s first title defense. Makhachev won the vacant title at UFC 280 against Charles Oliveira. Volkanovski was the backup for the event. Immediately after the event, Khabib Nurmagomedov, a friend and coach of Makhachev called out Volkanovski on his home turf in Australia. The fight happened at UFC 284 with the Russian winning by unanimous decision.

Michael Bisping stunned the world on 17 days notice, Can Alexander Volkanovski do it on 12 days?

Alexander Volkanovski taking the short notice fight has many fans pondering about Michael Bisping at UFC 199. Bisping won the title against Luke Rockhold at UFC 199. The original headliner was a rematch between Rockhold and Chris Weidman. Rockhold had already submitted Bisping in their first encounter 18 months prior. Against all odds, Bisping knocked out Rockhold in the very first round. It was one of the biggest upsets in UFC history. After the victory, Bisping would defend it once against Dan Henderson before losing it to Georges St. Pierre. “The Count” would retire after a knockout loss to Kelvin Gastelum after losing the title.

Sean O’Malley‘s coach, Tim Welch already predicted an upset victory for the Australian. Welch on his YouTube channel spoke about the matchup similar to that of Bisping’s. However, Islam Makhachev is not Luke Rockhold. Rockhold did not take the fight seriously against Bisping. The chance of Makhachev doing the same is very low.
