Alexander Volkanovski will be keeping a close eye on the lightweight title matchup at UFC 280 after THIS Dana White announcement.

Dana White, the UFC President is just as hyped as the fans around the world for this upcoming pay-per-view event, UFC 280. The event will be headlined by the amazing lightweight title matchup between Charles Oliveira and Islam Makhachev and co-headlined by the bantamweight title fight between Aljamain Sterling and TJ Dillashaw.

This event taking place in Abu Dhabi at the Etihad Arena will have the featherweight champ/pound-for-pound fighter Alexander Volkanovski flying all the way from Australia to act as backup for the main event. If he doesn’t get a chance to fight here, Dana White has confirmed the best fighter on the planet right now will have a crack at the 155-pound belt next.

In a recent interview ahead of UFC 280 with Robbie Fox of Barstool Sports, Dana White confirmed Alexander Volkanovski vs winner of Oliveira vs Makhachev “makes sense”. Safe to say the next two title fights regardless of the results will be an absolute treat to watch.

Not only did Dana White announce the next potential lightweight title contender but the UFC boss believes the winner of the much-anticipated bantamweight fight at UFC 280 between Sean O’Malley and Petr Yan should fight for the title next.

Aljamain Sterling and TJ Dillashaw will be fighting for the bantamweight title and the winner of this fight will take on the winner of Yan vs O’Malley with the belt at stake next. “Yeah absolutely,” said White when Robbie Fox of Barstool sports asked if Yan or O’Malley will get the next title shot.

“Petr Yan is the number one ranked guy in the world. O’Malley is 27 years old and he’s 15-1. He’s got the experience for this fight, he’s got the reach, the height advantage, he’s got knockout power, he’s got all the tools to win this fight,” added White in the interview.
