Sean Strickland is one of the most outspoken champions in the UFC. The middleweight champion appeared on the FULL SEND PODCAST before he went to fight for the title at UFC 293. During the podcast, Strickland had some interesting things to say about the UFC and Dana White.
On the podcast, Kyle Forgeard insinuated that if Strickland played in the NBA, he would’ve needed to pay $3.5 million in fines for his offensive remarks. Strickland credited UFC and Dana White for not being like the NBA or NFL. This is what he said:
Let me tell you about the UFC, you guys.....the UFC is the last Beacon. The UFC is more American than football. The UFC's f*cking more American than f*cking apple pie. Like, yeah, the UFC, man, does not get praised enough for how much they foster freedom and thought..... I appreciate that the UFC is the last Beacon for someone....I'm not LeBron James. I'm not fucking Izzy. I'm not trying to suck somebody off for a fucking Nike deal. fucking Nike, dude, like Nike's a fucking shit company.Sean Strickland via Full Send Podcast
Strickland believed that the UFC was the last beacon of hope for the United States of America. Due to billion-dollar sponsorships, the NFL and the NBA pander to sponsors like Nike. Strickland did not like it one bit. He hated Lebron James for pandering to sponsors.
Strickland will defend his middleweight title at UFC 297 against Dricus Du Plessis. The PPV event is the first PPV of 2024. Interestingly, Strickland replaced Du Plessis at UFC 293, where he won the title from Israel Adesanya.
Sean Strickland on why he hates Israel Adesanya
Israel Adesanya is one of the greatest fighters in the UFC. The former long-reigning middleweight champion lost the title to Sean Strickland at UFC 293. Strickland and Adesanya had a heated press conference before the fight. However, after the fight, the duo were cordial.
Strickland respects Adesanya as a good fighter. However, he does not think that Adesanya is a good person. On his appearance on the FULL SEND PODCAST, Strickland clarified why he thinks so. This is what he said.
There's a clip of him saying, 'Look at the color of my skin. I am Chinese.' Later on, somebody called him out on it. He's like, 'I did it for fucking money.' And that's why, like Izzy's not the Chinese champ. Is he's the Chinese whore. Is he's the Chinese slut.Sean Strickland via Full Send Podcast
Adesanya is presently on a self-imposed hiatus. However, he recently clarified that he would return sooner rather than later. The undefeated Khamzat Chimaev has his eyes on a potential matchup with Adesanya. Fans speculate a UFC 300 return for Adesanya.
