Former Champions Daniel Cormier and Chris Weidman sat down to discuss UFC 287 with Laura Sanko. However, the conversation became about their respective careers during a discussion about Israel Adesanya’s legacy if he loses again to Alex Pereira. Cormier believed it would not change as Adesanya had always lost to Pereira. However, Chris Weidman had a unique take that brought out a different reaction from DC.

Weidman said, “It changes it. If you would have retired on top like that, are you kidding me? You would be known as the GOAT. Hey! I am with you bro. If I would have retired after I knocked out Anderson Silva or before I fought Rockhold, I would have been 14-0 and retired.” After hearing some real talk, Cormier replied, “We both f***** up.”

Chris Weidman certainly brings some good points to the discussion. DC was widely considered among MMA’s GOAT after winning the Heavyweight title in 2018. However, his subsequent back-to-back losses against Stipe Miocic impacted his legacy. He moved out of the top 5 fighters list in the eyes of many MMA analysts and fight fans.

Recently, he competed in a submission grappling bout against ADCC veteran Owen Livesay at Polaris 23, where he lost the bout by unanimous decision. He has yet to retire from MMA and will look to return to the Octagon soon. On the other hand, Daniel Cormier continues to cover the sport of MMA for ESPN and his Youtube Channel.

DC is friends with McGregor’s previous opponents like Dustin Poirier and Khabib Nurmagomedov. However, it has not stopped him from complimenting the Irish Superstar for elevating the stardom of his opponents. Speaking with Ryan Clark, he praised the impact of Conor McGregor in the sport of MMA.

He said, “He has elevated two of my best friends. Two of the guys that I love, that I appreciate in this sport more than anyone. He has elevated Khabib to a megastar, and he has elevated Dustin Poirier to a level of stardom that Dustin never could’ve imagined getting before. So not only does he help himself, he helps the guys that he shares the octagon with – especially the ones that can beat him.”
