Daniel Cormier- Khamzat Chimaev

Many are down to watch Khamzat Chimaev pull off a profoundly enticing fight against Colby Covington by the grace of the MMA gods, at least Daniel Cormier wants this one. Chimaev is one of the most talked about UFC fighters in the world today and is known for his reckless attitude of loud-spoken nature coupled with a godlike talent for mixed-martial arts. Covington is the former 2-time UFC title challenger who is currently the #2 ranked welterweight in the official rankings.

Covington has lost only thrice in his overall MMA career and two of those losses come against the one and only former UFC pound-for-pound king, Kamaru Usman. Chimaev on the other hand is undefeated with 12 wins and 11 finishes. In one of the videos on his Youtube channel, Cormier ponders his thoughts upon Covington being possibly the next opponent for Chimaev, provided that Chimaev could make it back to welterweight.

“This by far guys, is the best matchup for Khamzat Chimaev at this moment if Leon Edwards is going to fight Kamaru Usman,” says Cormier. “Why is it tough though? Because Colby Covington can match Khamzat in most of those areas where we generally will say Khamzat has the advantages. Wrestling, cardio, Colby can match those. What Colby can’t match, is the power of Khamzat Chimaev…” continued Cormier.

Covington’s list of wins so far includes the likes of Jorge Masvidal, Tyron Woodley, Robbie Lawler, Rafale Dos Anjos, Demian Maia, Bryan Barberena, Dong Hyun Kim and many more. Chimaev’s list of wins includes the likes of Gilbert Burns, Li Jingliang, Gerald Meerschaert, Kevin Holland and many more. Covington trains out of MMA Masters and Chimaev trains out of All-Stars Training Center.

This is not the first time that this fantasy fight saw hopes of coming into fruition, when Chimaev was on a call-out spree after his fourth UFC fight and win against Li Jingliang, Covington was one of those names Chimaev was interested in. But Covington dismissed acknowledging Chimaev and instead started calling him out with an insulting nickname- C*mshot Chimaev.

Now Chimaev is also on a spot where the UFC might possibly not even allow him to be fighting at welterweight because of the weigh-in debacle caused by him during the UFC 279’s weigh-in when he came out 7.5 lbs overweight for his originally scheduled fight against Nate Diaz and was therefore made to fight Kevin Holland at welterweight. What do you make of this potential matchup between Chimaev and Covington? Who do you think wins and what do you make of Cormier’s thoughts on the matchup?
