After knocking out Jiri Prochazka at UFC 295, Alex Pereira became the undisputed UFC Light-Heavyweight Champion. Pereira called out Israel Adesanya after the fight. Daniel Cormier did not approve of this. Cormier who was present at the control panel discussed this call out with Joe Rogan. He said:
Leave old skeletons in the closet when you are at the top of the world. Don’t talk about the dude that used to beat you back in the day.
Pereira expressed interest in a trilogy fight with Adesanya. This created anticipation for a potential matchup. The call-out generated mixed reactions from the MMA community. Jan Blachowicz expressed discontent, describing Pereira’s move as “pathetic.” Blachowicz criticized Pereira for his actions, emphasizing that the light heavyweight division operates differently and Pereira’s callout was unwarranted.
Israel Adesanya responded to Alex Pereira’s callout following Pereira’s victory at UFC 295.
