Kevin Holland is the toast of the MMA community – exemplifying how martial arts can help maintain society’s equilibrium when it comes to nefarious elements.

In the months preceding the UFC 279 event, Holland had made quite the name for himself fighting crime in the Texan neighbourhoods, as well as a recorded instance of him distributing free gasoline to the citizens.

As per GIVEMESPORT, the high-level striker has cashed a carjacker, prevented a shooting, rescued a driver from an overturned tractor and most recently, caught a suspected thief. That’s four counts of crime that Holland has now stopped. Talk about honorary badges from the police, eh?

Kevin Holland might not be reigning atop the UFC, but he has made quite the mark for himself in the promotion, winning five straight fights in 2020 (tying a record in the process) and also taking on high calibre opposition.

UFC 279 was truly a rollercoaster of an event – that is not to say anything about the fights. Preceding the events, Khamzat Chimaev missing weight by a dramatic 7 pounds triggered a domino effect which led to legendary MMA veterans Nate Diaz and Tony Ferguson taking on each other. Originally, it was Li Jingliang who was billed to fight Ferguson, and Nate Diaz, Khamzat Chimaev.

Another domino that fell as part of Chimaev missing weight was Daniel Rodriguez being left without a fight. This was due to Khamzat Chimaev being booked to fight Kevin Holland instead as they both came in at around the 180 pound mark. D-Rod was supposed to fight Holland.

Speaking with Ariel Helwani, on the MMA hour, Rodriguez revealed how he got to know he was out of a fight, and how Kevin Holland swooped in to try mend the situation. D-Rod said, “Holland messaged me saying he was gonna take the fight…I wasn’t even sure if I was going to have a fight. Holland said it was a ‘sh*tshow… But, props to him, he told the UFC, the matchmakers… he wanted to make sure I was completely taken care of, not left without a fight…or atleast paid a little something.”

These words coming personally from Daniel Rodriguez will surely make Holland an ever bigger fan favourite, despite being ragdolled and finished within a single round by Khamzat Chimaev. In his defence, though, Khamzat was preparing for a striker anyway in Nate Diaz, while Kevin Holland’s previous opponent, Rodriguez isn’t exactly a wrestler.

An Interesting few years await Kevin Holland – while Holland hasn’t shown the ability to take on the absolute toughest guys, we might have to give him time to hit the stride, hone his elegant striking and start moving up the division. He definitely has power in hands and a good heart in his chest.
