UFC vet and former Bantamweight champion, Dominick Cruz is all set to face Marlon Vera this Saturday in San Diego. They will face each other in the Main event set for 5 rounds in the Bantamweight Division. Cruz is on a 2-fight winning streak similarly, Vera is on a 3-fight win streak.
Dominick Cruz is an American professional mixed martial artist. He is considered one of the greats of the 135lbs division. He was the final bantamweight titleholder of World Extreme Cagefighting (WEC) before its merger into the UFC. After losing to Henry Cejudo at UFC 249, The Dominator bounced back racking up two wins in his next two outings. In 27 fights his records stand at 24-3.
Three of his losses are at the hands of one of the best in the UFC, and two of them are former UFC champions. Cruz himself is a two-time Bantamweight Champion. After his UD win over Pedro Munhoz, he is currently ranked #8 in the UFC’s 135lbs division.
On the other hand, Vera an Ecuadorian native is one of the rising contenders in the Bantamweight division. After his loss to the UFC vet. Jose Aldo back in 2020, Chito bounced back racking up three wins. Chito also has wins over the likes of Frankie Edgar, Sean O’Malley and Rob Font. He is currently ranked #5 in the UFC Bantamweight division.
Marlon Vera constantly pokes at Dominick Cruz
In an interview with Ariel Helwani on the MMA Hour yesterday, The Dominator talks about his upcoming fight, his opponent Marlon Vera, why he represents himself in fight negotiations with the UFC and more. Cruz also praised Vera for his achievements in the UFC.
When asked if he and his opponent are cool with each other or if there’s any beef, The Dominator responded, ” I’m cool with him, who knows what he’s thinking. I try not to worry about that, I just try to be me. You know I can only control myself. I’ve seen him, I’ve worked alongside him a million times and there’s never been.”
“I mean he always had a little bit of like, he would always kind of come around and like poke at me but it wasn’t, I just never really bit, because I’m not really attached, it doesn’t, I’m just here one day at a time being what I gotta be to make it work every day and if this is it, this is it. If he doesn’t like me, I can’t control that either.” Cruz further added.
Cruz clarified that he had no problem with Vera, “I just got no problem with him. I have respect for him, I love what he’s done. I’ve seen him on the bottom of the division, rise to the top, how can you not respect that.”
Bantamweight is currently one of the most exciting divisions in the UFC. With another clash of the bantamweights, it will be interesting to see who comes out as the next title challenger.
