Colby Covington is Donald Trump‘s favorite fighter. Trump will attend UFC 296 to watch Covington compete for the welterweight title. In a recent interview with Daniel Cormier, Covington surprised many with a shocking revelation.
During the interview, Colby Covington revealed that Donald Trump gave him the game plan against Leon Edwards. Cormier found it to be a joke. However, Covington doubled down, and this is what he said:
He was a wrestler; he was a wrestler. He can fight, man. Dude, he's got it. Bro, he's got lunch boxes, he can knock somebody the f*ck out......He used to wrestle. He's a wrestler, like us, man. He's one of us, for real. When I was at the White House, he told me.Colby Covington via YouTube
Trump was a good baseball player during high school days. However, in college, he played squash and tennis. Nevertheless, nobody knew about Trump’s wrestling career. Since Covington is a close friend of Trump, he might have some inside information about the matter. However, there are no official records of Trump’s career as a high school or college wrestler.
Interestingly, Donald Trump is a close friend of Vince McMahon. He has appeared on numerous occasions on WWE. Colby Covington believes that having Donald Trump in attendance at UFC 296 will secure him the undisputed welterweight title.
Colby Covington goes off on the resume of Leon Edwards
Colby Covington went off at Edwards’ fight resume in the interview with Daniel Cormier for Cormier’s YouTube channel. Many accused Covington of getting a title shot by coming off the couch. Leon Edwards was no exception. Edwards believed that Covington’s ‘spoiled brat attitude’ landed him the title shot. Cormier alluded to this in the interview
Covington did not like Edwards’ assessment. This is what Covington said to Cormier about Edwards’s resume:
He beat a 40-year-old Nate Diaz. He beat a 40-year-old, washed-up RDA, a guy after I already destroyed him years prior, a 40-year-old Donald Cerrone, Ricky Waters. What is his record?
Leon Edwards earned the title shot after a victory over Nate Diaz. Apart from his victories over Kamaru Usman in title fights, he has only one victory over a ranked welterweight in his previous 12 fights. In the case of Covington, the number is 0.
Both Covington and Edwards have a victory over Rafael dos Anjos, who is a ranked contender in the lightweight division. Nevertheless, their fights against Kamaru Usman remain a testament to their standing in the welterweight division.
