Dustin Poirier took Islam Makhachev’s criticism of his BJJ to his heart! “The Diamond” earned an amazing finish against Michael Chandler at UFC 281 and took a sly dig at the UFC lightweight champion.

Not long ago, leading up to UFC 280, the lightweight title fight, Islam Makhachev was disappointed that fighters like Dustin Poirier were awarded black belts in Jiu-Jitsu. The Dagestani told Daniel Cormier, the Louisiana fighter did not have the skills of a black belt in BJJ and thinks it should be canceled. Makhachev also said handing out black belts to anybody made BJJ look bad.

Dustin Poirier went to war against Michael Chandler and put on a stunning show for the fans like he always does at the amazing UFC 281 PPV. Madison Square Garden was stunned watching the people’s main event as the fight was an absolute blood-fest. Poirier, not only escaped from Chandler’s submission attempts but ended up pulling off an amazing finish.

Following his final-round submission victory against Mike Chandler, Poirier gave hilariously dropped a jibe on the microphone. “Who ain’t got Jiu-Jitsuuuu?” said Poirier as he left the octagon. Maybe “The Diamond” can test his BJJ skills against the champion, Islam Makhachev himself down the line. Only time will tell.

Dustin Poirier has been fighting in the UFC for more than a decade now. The fighter has seen the highest of highs and the lowest of lows in his experienced career. The fighter from Louisiana is arguably the greatest fighter in the UFC lightweight division’s history to not hold the undisputed lightweight belt. Poirier is a BJJ black belt and also has some finishes to back his amazing skills on the ground.

Poirier has a total of four wins by submission under the UFC banner. They come against Pablo Garza, Max Holloway, Jonathan Brookins, and recently Michael Chandler. However, “The Diamond” has a bad history with rear-naked chokes. The two times he fought for the lightweight undisputed belt, both times the fight ended in Poirier getting submitted by a rear naked choke.

Khabib Nurmagomedov and Charles Oliveira pulled off insane submission wins against “The Diamond” to deny him the undisputed lightweight title. Poirier was also close to being finished in a similar fashion against Chandler but his lessons from the past helped him escape the choke.
