“It’s OFFICIAL”- Dustin Poirier, Michael Chandler’s massive GRUDGE match is set for UFC 281 in MSG

Among all the speculations and fans’ requests, it seems as if the UFC has finally approved a Lightweight clash between Dustin Poirier and Michael Chandler. The two brawlers will go head to head in a three-round Lightweight bout in the UFC 281 card at MSG, New York.

After knocking out Conor McGregor at UFC 257, Poirier opted for a trilogy bout with the Notorious one instead of fighting for the title. This opened up the way for Chandler to get the title shot. This prompted a little friction between the two which has only grown since then. The fuel to the fire was in July at UFC 276, The two Lightweights were caught on camera being separated after a heated cageside argument during the event.

The Diamond was on a three-fight winning streak defeating Dan Hooker in an all-out war. He then went on to defeat the former two-division champion and Megastar, McGregor back to back last year to settle the score. However, Dustin’s streak and title aspirations came to end after losing to the Lightweight Champion, Charles Oliveira via submission at UFC 269 last year.

On the other hand, Iron is coming off of a vicious front kick knockout of the UFC vet and former Interim Lightweight champion Tony Ferguson at UFC 274. Chandler became the first fighter to finish El Cucuy inside the octagon. He is 2-2 in the promotion and is looking to bag his biggest win to state his case for the title.

Among all the speculations, one of the most thrilling Lightweight bout was confirmed for UFC 281 in MSG, New York. The two will face each other in November in a three-round fight in the 155lbs division. In addition to signing the fight against the Diamond, Chandler has also signed a new multi-fight deal with the promotion.

As per UFC’s Chief Business Officer, Hunter Campbell the fight is official and will take place in the UFC 281 Adesanya vs Pereira card. The card will be headlined by the Middleweight king Israel Adesanya who is taking on his Kickboxing rival Alex Pereira. The card also features a Strawweight title fight between Carla Esparza and Zhang Weili in the co-main event.

After a win again Ferguson, Iron called out everybody except Poirier as he stated that Dustin has already left the division. Although after the altercation at UFC 276 it seems as it was the final nail in the coffin. As he has changed his mind and agreed to fight the Diamond.

The fight will be a very interesting matchup as Chandler is looking to cash in on his picture-perfect knockout of El Cucuy and beat the former title challenger to make his case for the title. On the other hand, Poirier is looking to settle the beef and get back into the win column after the title loss against Oliveira last December.
