“Completed the VIOLENCE TRIANGLE” – Dustin Poirier talks about fighting 3 of the most VIOLENT guys of our era
Dustin Poirier has beaten all of these men in the UFC
Dustin Poirier has been a mainstay in the UFC lightweight division for the last decade. He has had incredible match-ups with some of the very best fighters in the UFC. Over the course of his UFC career, he has fought for a UFC championship twice and once held the UFC interim lightweight championship. He has a resume of wins that almost all MMA fighters would envy. Poirier is currently the #2 ranked lightweight in the UFC.
However, his already imposing 29-7 record is more magnificent when some of those names appear alongside each other. “The Diamond” has beaten some of the most dangerous fighters in the UFC. His wins include Justin Gaethje, and former champion Eddie Alvarez and he completed the “violence triangle” last Saturday. In his last fight, he went to war with the ex-Bellator champion, Michael Chandler. He secured the victory in the 3rd round via rear naked choke.
Reflecting on his record on the MMA Hour, Poirier said, ” I completed the violence triangle: finished Gaethje, finished Eddie Alvarez, finished Chandler.” And this is indeed an impressive feat considering these men are themselves notorious for finishing fights in impressive fashion. Dustin Poirier is also the only man to knock out both McGregor and Holloway.
The “Diamond” is one of the greatest UFC lightweights ever. And despite his shaky start in the featherweight division, he did beat the future champion, Max Holloway, during that run. It is safe to say that when all is said and done, Poirier’s time in the UFC will be looked at with awe even if he never manages to become champion.
Dustin Poirier said he was open to fighting Beneil Dariush at UFC 284 in Australia
At UFC 281, Dustin Poirier stole the show with his fight against Michael Chandler. He finished that fight in an impressive fashion via submission. He also indirectly hit back at Islam Makhachev who questioned Poirier’s Jiu-Jitsu skills and said he should not have a black belt in the discipline.
At the post-fight press conference, Dustin was asked about Khabib Nurmagomedov saying that Beneil Dariush should be Poirier’s next fight. The former interim champion responded, saying, “That’s one that makes a lot of sense, you know. Beneil’s earned his stripes and put away some tough guys and been looking great doing it. We’ll see, you know, I’m not against it.”

He also said that Beneil was a great match-up for him and deserved the fight. And a fight between the two does make a lot of sense. Dariush and Poirier are both ranked #2 and #4 respectively, and a win for either would be monumental in their claims for a shot at the UFC lightweight championship.
